....was handed down today in the Newsom-Christian murders in Knoxville Tennessee....
The victims were kidnapped robbed raped and brutally tortured before being murdered. The sentence followed the reccomendation of the jury.Desciptions of the events particular to the crime were horrific almost beyond the imagination.

What if YOU had been on that Jury? Could YOU pronounce the Death penalty?
How do you think of Capital Punishment in general?

If it's proven beyond ANY doubt, 'yes' to a Death penalty.
It's a pity -- a Death penalty is an easy way out for such horrific crimes.

If the evidence is overwhelming, as you imply it is, then I have no problem with wielding the axe !

If it were my friend or family member who was raped and tortured then killed, I would want to be the one to pull the switch, inject them, gas them or whatever happened to be the Death Penalty. I think the Death Penalty is too easy, too humane it should make them suffer more.

Yes if they were guilty I would give them the death penalty without a doubt.

They should have to spend the rest of there lifes in the worst prisons ever.

There was no question of Guilt.
The trial was based on the sentencing phase.

A junior Prosecutor fainted at the sight of the autopsy photos.

The perpetrators will likely die in the state Penitentiary -of natural causes--after years of appeals and stays. The logest tenure for a current Death Row inmate is 31 years and counting.....
Tennessee has executed only 2 prisoners in the last 50 years.....when appeals were halted on request of the condemned man and in the case of a cop killer, after decades.

They may have had a tortured life and as long as they are off the streets and the world will be safe from them. They will never be thought of again.

In cases of homicide, the death penalty is hypocritical.

In other cases, the death penalty is excessive.

Like everybody else so far I would insist on proof beyond a shadow of a doubt. Unfortunately innocent people have been executed due to misconduct of prosecutors, faulty forensics, mistaken witnesses, coersed confessions and a raft of other reasons. Not everybody accused of a capital crime can afford to hire Johnny Cochran. The worst thing any society can do is to put an innocent person to death.

Having said that, I firmly believe that executing somebody for a capital offense should be done in public and it should not be an easy way to go like lethal injection if it is to serve any purpose other than some obscure old testament edict of an eye for an eye. Any person committing a heinous crime should be forced to live a heinous life for about half of their remaining life expectancy so they suffer and have plenty of time to regret their act and can count down their remaining days and then they should be executed on a prescribed date & time. No appeals.

By the general public, no. But by the families of those taken by these horrific crimes, you can bet they'll be thought of every single day... sigh

There are two types of murderers. Some are animals and some are humans that got into a situation for a particular reason.

I have no issue with putting a rabid animal down.

Those of us familiar with the subject know that not even rabid animals behave in the manner of the defendants in this case.

It is hypocritical only if you believe that more murders take place without it.
