I have long assumed that this was not the place to promote a commercial venture.
But three times now I have seen members pitch their music in blogs or forums.Notably today.
As you know I have made myself conspicuous over the last several months--not to sell a book but to be visable to the woman who is looking for me.

A few CS members have read my Fiction and a few others have asked about it,for which I am appreciative.I finally blogged it but have not posted any hype.
If you like my approach to the forums{well, some of them]you might enjoy my novel.
The work is called "ISLANDER" See the cover art and summary at the publisher's site.

Should this be pulled I will understand.
Thanks to all for your interest in my humble efforts to braid together wonder-words.

I'm still useless with the quote thing - wanted to quote the line about your being visible to the woman blah blah blah.

I love you're sense of wit!

I knew you would be on my side.
How's that knee? I'll bet it hurts like hell.
But it'll hurt less ....

Graved a maxim,True and Wise,
Which if held before his eyes
Gave Him counsel at a glance,
Fit for every change and chance,
Solemn Words and these are they:

I concur that this is an incredible work of literary fiction! John is being humble here but Islander is a fabulous read full of emotion and life. You'll miss the characters when you've finished this one!

Literary pieces are not my preferred genre, but this one gets a definite thumbs up!

Found this description of Islander as written by John Tullock, formerly Barnes & Nobel. Since I've not written promos before, Tullock better describes the novel:

"Does the experience of personal tragedy leave us better prepared to comfort others? Can true love conquer all forms of adversity? Author John Baird explores these questions in his new novel, Islander, from Publish America. With unique insight, Baird weaves a tale of loss, abandonment and, ultimately, redemption in this feast for the lover of literary fiction.

After everything he ever cared about is taken from him, the Islander lives alone, seldom venturing out except to seek solace amid the shelves and tomes of a bookstore. There he meets a woman who will lead him back into the light, until fate intervenes once more in their lives.

Rich with imagery in the best traditions of the gothic romantic style, Islander takes the reader from the wilderness of Alaska to the hollows of the Southern Appalachians, with a cast of unforgettable characters. The resourceful and multi-talented Grover, who adopts the orphaned Islander, will touch your heart with his quiet wisdom. You will recoil from Lucy, the deranged, sardonic witch, who makes life miserable for everyone she encounters.

With the release of Islander, Baird has bestowed upon lucky readers a first novel with the riveting narrative and evocative language of a seasoned literary talent."

Thanks to Mr. Tullock for this better and more appropos description of Islander!

Wonder, I don't see why this should be pulled, as you've done it tastefully. Btw, "Death and Candlewax" was interesting, I did read it, I just didn't get back to the lovely Jackson or you with my comments. I'm sure "Islander" would be an interesting read. wine

I read this and ordered the book. Hope it arrives this weekend.

Product Description
The Islander is a reclusive, introspective individual living on the outskirts of society. Everyone he has cared for has come to ruin, and he interprets life according to old mythic allegories involving light and darkness, good and evil. He knows that he is followed by the unseen subordinates of malice who despise himself and his ambitions. Demons in many forms and guises continually mock and oppress him. Then he stumbles across his female counterpart through blind chance and forms an alliance apart from the mainstream of humanity. When circumstances beyond his control force him to emerge from isolation, he slowly discovers that he has unwittingly acquired the capacity to help the strangers he encounters in their time of direst need. He also learns that the demons are still with him.

Wow! My bed was not made, clothes are still sitting in the washer from this morning, dishes in the sink, my hairs a wreck. Where is the cat? Pineapples out of the can for dinner. I just hate a good book, and I am only beginning chapter 12.

"I bought her a locket, a little silver heart, and I wore it myself until she discovered it and took it from me. There was a message inside, but no other can ever know it."

I will never know that, will I?

Methinks you know the Islander's message. But it had to remain unspoken.
Thank you again Darling Judy.
To the Writer there is nothing more gratifying in life than knowing that the friend you have not met followed the weave in your words.

"In M'Corrie's locket was a small scrap of paper similar to the slip from a fortune cookie.I had placed it there for her eyes alone and not for any other. The corners were worn where it had been refolded many times. There was a faint whiff of chamomille from the bath.I rolled it into a ball smaller than a pea. Then I swallowed it....."

I've had a lot of good times with that stuff.
Hope you do too.

" I wish you would read something fine and sad and pretty, she said one rainy afternoon when there was nothing to do, the way we used to do"

Fine and sad and pretty describes this book.

"It seemed unlikely words could span so immense a gulf as separated us."
"Perhaps a syllable or more might drift my way. Or, if not: well you know."
