Let me premise my remarks on the general topic of swineflu by saying that there is no doubt that this infection is a potential killer for people with underlying conditions. There are those who have little choice but to take the vaccine...to weigh up the benefits versus the potential longterm effects. Id like to think that as adults, contributing to this forum ,we can handle the pros and cons, differing opinions on this subject. After all, we can only decide whats best for ourselves at the end of it all.
I am sickened and now saddened to learn of the death of 5yr old Ruby Ayoub. She was mistakenly diagnosed with swine flu, only to develop meningitis. My thoughts are with her family and her medical team. What a tragedy.

I work at the coal face in community pharmacy. On paper, it may seem like the hse's handling of this potential epidemic has been as good as it gets. For months now, we have had tamilfu prescribed for the slightest chance of the diagnosis being swine flu. Weve had people prescribed tamiflu, WITHOUT BEING SEEN BY THEIR DOCTOR!
We have noted a viral infection doing the rounds for the last few weeks....which can start off with postnasal drip..leading to sore throat, unproductive cough, sudden rise in temp..and sometimes vomiting.
However, it resolves within 2 to 3 days......
I am told that there are a number of sentinel gp surgeries being monitored around the country, And based on their experience , estimates are calculated as to extent of the problem.
I would hope that at least in these surgeries, swabs are being taken to establish how many CONFIRMED cases we have?

Because otherwise, we really cant say just what numbers were dealing with nor do we know the true extent of the problem here in Ireland. And we DO need to know....to prevent needless anxiety and peope taking potent antiviral meds when its unnecessary.


And in this climate of fear and lack of true figures, we have the danger of misdiagnosis....

Dr Viera Scheibner is a retired Principal Research Scientist (Rtd) with a doctorate in Natural Sciences. After an eminent scientific career in which she published 3 books and some 90 scientific papers in refereed scientific journals in Australia and overseas, her study of baby’s breathing patterns and cot death in the mid 1980s clearly pointed to vaccines as being behind the majority of cot deaths. This introduced her to the subject of vaccination, which she has, as a result, been avidly studying ever since.
Despite extensive research of orthodox medical research published on vaccines over the past 100 years she could find no scientific evidence that these injections of highly noxious substances prevent diseases, quite the contrary, that they increase susceptibility to them, in addition to causing a host of immune disorders and other damage to the body, including the brain. She was forced to conclude that they represent nothing but a medical assault on the immune system. Having vaccinated her own two daughters when she was a young mother (and also having insisted on receiving a tetanus vaccine herself, not long before her research caused her to study vaccination) this was not easy to come to terms with.

Her research into vaccination has culminated so far in two books, and frequent international lecture tours in which she is invited to address groups of medical and legal professionals as well as the general public. She is also accepted as expert witness in court cases relating to death and injuries caused by vaccines, such as so-called “shaken baby” syndrome injuries, which like many vaccine injuries can be fatal.
