I've just rejoined here after being away from some time. Its been great to reconnect with people that I knew here before but I'm feeling frustrated that I get so many men from foreign countries emailing/iming me wanting to get "married" in the first email.

I truly have to question their motivation - are they simply trying to move to North America or do they truly desire love and marriage? When I questioned a man from Iran and he told me that the women in his country only married for money and that he was looking for someone for who that wasn't so important.

I've had mail from India, Sir Lanka and Iran mostly that have been in this vain ......... so what's the deal? I honestly hesitate to engage with them as I'm not totally familiar with their customs as well as the way that women are treated and what their expectations would be.

I totally realize that I don't want to lump people together - but truly how can one take someone seriously if they propose in the first email? Engaging in conversations is great and I don't mind speaking with people from other areas but does one need to take the step to block certain countries on the whole to avoid this type of behaviour?

Who would walk up to a perfect stranger and propose?

Yes, I just needed to vent and I'm sure that I'll have many words of advice to simply block the sender - but truly I'd rather know why people seem to think that this is ok in the first place. I'm not a knockout so I don't expect that kind of attention by any means - but it would be nice to meet someone who is truly sincere and that I can take their interest as truly being genuine.

What's sad is that you really can't even take them as being genuine.

I lived in Turkey for 4 yrs the life is hard and many are looking for an easier life, and see western woman as a means to getting it, the internet has provided them with that chance and they tend to go for older woman because they believe they have money, generally they contact many woman hoping to get lucky.

Now it sounds cynical, but it was what i saw first hand can't say all Asian countries are the same, but i believe you nedd to be very carefuland that there is a hidden agenda.

I get the same mostly from Yemen, India and Pakistan wine

Right, because on my profile, I stated that I thought friendship should be the start of a relationship.

How long have we been dealing with this situation my dear friend. You and I went down this road before and I seem to remember a wise woman that said to block them. professor

No one in their right mind would propose marriage in a first email, nor would a sane person accept such a proposal.

Most of those places still have arranged marriages. Women are a prize to be won and the women don't get a word in to retort it. The women are far from liberal in any way.

Your beautiful just the way you are. Don't base it on someone elses behavior or interest, it comes from within you.

How is it that you and I always seem to come back here around the same time laugh

Hi Serenity - yes, its kinda funny to come across so many people from before - its been ages since I was on here! Hope you are doing well.

As for your advice - yes, I've blocked a few but therein lies the crutch. I'm curious as to whether its simply a "custom" and straight forward method that they engage in overall or am I simply being bombarded by the loonies?? I frankly don't think that they could handle me in a relationship as I'm extremely independent and I admit a little stubborn at times too! :)

I do admit to a slight fascination with different cultures - but wherein do I draw that line of interest and actually maybe meeting someone from another country? Perhaps I should just stick to my first choice of Latin or French men and it would be a lot easier! lol

As for the other comments about at least getting mail .... there is good mail and there is mail that you'd rather not get and sometimes its better to have nothing in the inbox at times rather than so extremely pushy person that doesn't get the hint to move on.
