Home burglary probed as possible bias crime
(11/09/09) FARMINGVILLE - Authorities in Suffolk are investigating whether the burglary of a Farmingville home Monday was a bias crime.
Neighbors say the family who lives in the home is Muslim and witnesses told News 12 Long Island that after the family went out for a walk Monday morning someone broke into the home and trashed it.

According to police, one of the residents said she may have been targeted because of her religion.

The home is in a gated complex, but neighbors say the gates have been broken for years. Many also say they’ll take more precautions when leaving their homes even if only for a few minutes.

Seeing that a couples home was trashed and I'm not aware if any valuables were even stolen or not (haven't read the complete story), it does tend to lean towards a type of biasism...perhaps not of the Muslim's, however. I fail to see how the thread title reflects this, although I may be missing something here. dunno

what confuses me about fort hood incident is the guy who shot 4o people with two hand guns, had time to reload not once but numberous times. Yet no solider did anything, and apparently all were trained in combat, yet it take a woman coppper to stop him.

I thnk we are not been told the truth here.

What confuses me is that it took 3 minutes before ANYBODY ELSE with a gun arrived to stop the shooter... and she was a civilian police officer! Don't they have armed MP's at Fort Hood? It shouldn't have taken 3 minutes to stop this guy, and it shouldn't have required a civilian cop to do it. Where were the MP's at that base? Surely they have armed MP's on base, wouldn't you think? confused

ps. He wasn't reloading individual bullets, that 1 pistol at least used clips and it only takes a second or so for a trained shooter to pop 1 clip out and a fresh clip in. No conspiracy about that!

Christ they are under heavy duty lock and key, in the armouries and have to be signed in and signed out, everything has to be accounted for. I wonder what direction this thread will go in!wine
For those who don't know...most all US military bases employ civilian cops. They are called Department of Defense police. They are non-military or ex-military. Most bases will then compliment the DOD police with military personnel. But it is the civilian (DOD) who are primarily responsible for security on the bases.

Soldiers do NOT walk around carrying rifles and ammunition as a matter of course when not on active duty.............. the weapons are locked safely away in a place called an 'Armoury' and ammunition is stored separately in a place called an 'ammunition bunker'.

Not many soldiers would wish to try and rush a guy firing a weapon at them if they were unarmed - better to let a nice policewoman, who is armed, do that for you!

Imagine how dangerous it would be to allow easy access to weapons and ammo. for Swiss or American or German or UK soldiers when not on active duty and they had had a few beers............. the potential threat to civilians would be greater than any terrorist act! doh
