CS website

Is anyone else having problems here on CS with regard to malware invading your computer and subsequestly having problems posing comments on the forums?

A few weeks ago, my desktop machine got infected with some malware from the CS webiste. I got the machine cleaned up again, but now i have noticed that when I attempt to post a comment on a forum, this site will not respond to the 'post' command.

Kind of frustrating and I feel like I have been kind of shut down. (Shot down? Shit on?) Will be interesting to see if this will post. I think the problem is primarily posting comments.

I wrote the people (?) of CS about it, but did not receive a response.

What do you think?

Not CS in my opinion. Sounds like you have a conficker worm. Nasty little buggers that increase the damage they do with time. Eventually the more things you click on, the more things wont work. Windows live messenger was the sounce of one some time ago. It opened up a phishing page confirming the passowrd for messenger and infected my machine for a while. It eventually closed or disabled every program I clicked on..... Ther eis one called avcare too which mimics AVG and it is viscious. Only thing to do is to get the machine wiped completely and reloaded by a professional. Even keeping your "my documents" files can re-infect the machine again over time.

I have not found any malware in scans, relating to this issue,
BUT...

I have gone thru the effort of responding to a post and just as I am ready to post my comment, my Browser gives me a warning that it must shut down and DOES reference something about malware.

I use the Opera browser and it protects me from this, I suppose.

It IS very frustrating as I have to then log back on, find the thread and try to remember what I had written previously and type it all over again.

So in answer to your question, YES, I also have this problem occasionally.frustrated frustrated frustrated

It is not from CS..
they are malware free..
(one usually gets that from "shopping" type sites,
and game sites i.e. POGO, etc. although can come from ANywhere)
BUT.. there are "scripts" (programs) that "float" in
cyber space, and when a port is found (like your
utilization/access.. it will try to invade your
system.. usually.. USUALLY malware "piggybacks" into
your system on/through a site or software and is
USUALLY a data miner/tracker type pest that is an
annoyance and not lethal or harmful.. but NOT always..
check your firewall settings and make sure you utilize
some type of automated scan and buffer to keep safe..
be sure it is ACTIVE, and one that continuiously updates
itself for latest trouble..
there are many good ones that are both free and pay..
I do believe that which you choose is by what YOU do,
and your prefrence for the type of security you need
to control and or limit..
I go with Symantics as I have utilized security since
the early 80's and worked with Peter before he partnered
with them.. I like it..
But most reputable companies can be counted on to
do the basic job..
Hope this has helped..

Thanks Rizlared, I know my connection is slow, but it has been reliable. (as in the saying : it may not go fast, but it does go far...)

Anyway, I got a few days behind on updating the virus and malware definitions, and as a result I got the ' vundo ' trojan malware which disabled my anti-malware program.

Anyway, all is good now, but I repeatedly and frequently have zero response when I hit the 'post' command to a forum thread.

Anyway, thanks again for your reply my friend.

Thanks to all for your responses.

I will keep working on it and see how things go. This is a somewhat intermittent problem, but many times after visiting CS and only CS, and then scanning my machine, it has malware on it. The firewall has contained it (it is in one of the malware vaults), but it tried to come aboard on the CS site.

Actually, as I think more about it, the day my machine got infected, I did get a weird pop-up while on CS that had something to do with 'Internet Explorer' (which I am not normally using), and since I had recently downloaded Microsoft update, I thought it had something to do with that.

When I responded to the pop up is when I got infected I think. Since then, I have learned that when ever you get a pop-up on your machine, hit : " Alt and the F4 key" and that will safely and instantly close all pop ups that occur.

Thanks again for your time and your comments.

Yes. 3 times in last couple of weeks.
Twice was caught by antivirus and I quarantined it immediately. Once I had to clean it up.

It could be possible that the "piggybacks" SB mention of, could be coming from some of those AD links that CS has around this site. And I wouldn't say that any malware came directly from CS itself, and CS can't be held responsible for what may hide within an AD.

Speaking of piggybacking, it's like those popup's and having a popup stopper. When one popup gets blocked, another slips through and gets ya via piggybacking.

Exactly!! They are coming from malicious adds on this site. Use Firefox with the script blocker add-on. It will block it and tell you were it's coming from, so you can notify CS and let them know what their advertising is doing to it's users!!

You need more than a pop-up blocker...you need a script blocker and identifier!!

If the third party malware and/or spyware is forced on you through the site you are using, it doesn't make a difference for your pc whose fault it is, does it? All cs ads on my pc are blocked even from being displayed.

I always thought Peter Norton sold his software company to symantic, and then concentrated on his art collection, I had no idea he was still involved with his utilities. TY
