Wow, man! My first instinct was to say "no." I don't think real criminals can be trusted on the follow-through. Isn't their frame of mind "self"?

I don't think criminals should serve in the military. How do we know that some criminals aren't already serving.

I think it's a great idea. What a waste to have these big, tough, naturally aggressive, fearless guys sitting in a cell when they can be actually doing something constructive that they are already very good at? Give them the choice to serve and if they complete a tour of duty thier sentence will be suspended or thrown out and they can start a new life. I would bet 90% of them would jump at the chance. Of course you would have to be very selective in who you offer the deal to.

As a former soldier I think a special unit should be formed specificly for certain crimminals. Most of these people are too deviant to take orders and be trusted with your life but, a special unit with discipline and training for covert activities may make these people have a different outlook on their behaviour and compassion for others.

Where have you and many others been hiding...there have always been, are now and especially in times of war, many armies have special units which are made up of 'criminals' that uses all their various talents. Some operate totally independently of any country and are for hire... They operate world wide are usually found in every conflict, usually on both or all sides...(hey, what the hell, it's all good money! ) The training differs dramatically though...some use real people for others learning how to kill...they use the terminally sick, mental patients, young and old that no one will miss and a new recruit so learns first hand the killing business so that when they really go into combat, they are already fully prepared with no drama over killing innocents, or bystanders...it's a tough world out there, wear a helmet.

I know a guy who had a choice to go to jail or join, this was during ww2...he got caught with stolen fur coats in Manhattan n.y, he was 30 years old when he joined the 509 paratroopers and recived the bronze star and silver star with oak leave clusters. and was wounded and got the purple heart.

To cut a long story short the military needs men that are technically criminally insane , so if they are willing why not .

It’s interesting how in ww2 only about 2% shot to kill on a regular basis , 1% of whom would fit the criteria for being criminally insane

A lot of wasted ammo ,i think in todays british army the shoot to kill % is up to 96 but the psychological fall out % later on is up as well

You can waste a Lot of Ammo with Automatic Weapons!
But the Curtain you create is sufficiently dense,that only fools would try penetrate it,thus the low ratio.

In USSR we had special Units we called it "Stroybut". It was made of criminals ( but killers) and those millitary men who got problems with attidute or something like this" Sorry i don't know correct English terminology for this type of men.

Stroybut was used for constraction of military and Civilian facilities and infrastructures. Those men where not waisting Goverment money by sitting in Jails They actually were working.

Criminals shouldnt put in the security forces it is a very bad experiene
if they dont crimes wth thier hands they can help the criminals
