Also pray, pray, and pray some more! We often don't understand why things happen but they can change. I attempted to help a homeless guy who is also an alcoholic with schizophrenia. At first he accepted my help to get food, etc. But he didn't want to quit drinking or seek counseling. Finally I got him to agree to go to a program that specialized in homeless people, with substance abuse problems, and mental illness. Perfect right? He stayed 3 days and left. I was so dissappointed. Even though it was his choice, I felt like I failed. I had put my faith in God to make it work out and it failed. So I felt there was no more I could do but I kept praying that God would intervene. A month later I got a call from a counselor from another program that we had stopped at before finding the program I hoped he would attend. My homeless guy stopped on his own seeking counseling and medication for his mental illness. It turns out the counselor also new a landlord who happens to be a Christian and the man said he would rent a small old home to him at a discounted rate if he was able to get Medicaid. Now a guy who lived in a tent for several years has a roof over his head. I praise God for bringing the pieces together to make this happen. I continue to pray that he stays on track. I stopped by yesterday to see how he was doing. He said "in the middle, not great, not bad." Sounds like an average person to me!!!
