I didn´t really listen to the lyrics back then and beeing Swedish it´s not in my native language. So when I listened to "One in a million" by GN´R about 8 years after it was popular, I was shocked. Not by the lyrics but that I hadn´t noticed the lyrics back then as they are very controversial to say the least. When you are listening to music in your native language, do you pay attention to the lyrics? If you ever listens to music where they aren´t singing in you native language do you pay attention then and try to translate the lyrics?

I listen to the lyrics in music, because personally, I like music that is appropiate to my own moral standards.

Also I am a mother, and must not only set an example for my children but also know what they are listening too, and make sure that it is wholesome, and not something that belongs in the trash.

Good question. When I like a song, it's usually the music that gets me first, then much later I'll hear the lyrics. Paws

Always hear the lyrics first...it is what the artist/musician is trying to say that draws me to the music.

I am not happy about this title...I prefer my "homosexual" friends to be addressed as such. Not "faggots". If that's the name of the song...understood. If not...bad taste.

It´s a part of the lyrics in "One in a million" and I was shocked that I hadn´t noticed it earlier. Not trying to offend anyone here and I appologise if I hurt anyones feeling.

Axl Rose actually apologized for the song back in 88 ...he said that's the way he felt when he wrote it and well he even put something on the cd for ppl to read ... i don't really agree with what the song says ...

I have to say that the tittle of this thread shock me, but now after reading it I feel better
wave
If the song is in English language I like the music first then I read the lyrics
If the song is in Spanish the opposite because I feel all my emotions in my language

I agree...it's what the artist is actually saying that draws me to the song and not the beat
