No more foolish that a gun ban in the country, Liz.

The US has over 350,000,000 guns. Could a gun ban ever locate and recover all of them? That is pretty impractical as well.

One local school district has already placed a funding request for 81 new security guards for elementary schools here. Not sure if they are to be armed or not.

So if we are going to place security guards in the schools.....

SO who is going to pay for them Tim?? YOU?? Of course not, so they will reduce the salary of the teachers, who in turn will stop teaching, America will become a land of ignorance and stupidity, or maybe it is already????
You who support the NRA are doing exactly what you complained the Dems are doing, kowtowing to the powerful business's who will lose money if weapons are better regulated.

Face up to your responsibilities, and get a better more modern regulatory system in place for owning guns, simple really!!

NO seriously at the present time "gun free zones" are stupid (although I maintain my stand against general armament) it just gives the nutters carte blanch to massacre with impunity, so I must go along with eradicating gun free zones, at this moment in time, until a more permanent solution is found

The Second Amendment is just an excuse to get around killing for the fun of it. If it wasn't there gun owners would use a different excuse to "defend" themselves.

Congress will never changed the Second Amendment because they are in bed with the NRA. And now the NRA wants an armed guard in every school. Putting aside the senseless suggestion, what if the guard is on the other side of the school from where the gunman is? How much help is he going to be. Nonsense!! Just another way to sell more guns.

Guns will always be around. That's not the problem. The problem is who can buy a gun.

They pay for them in 10,000 schools already, Liz. Those school districts have found a way to do it. Seem there are 98,000 schools in the country. So about 1/10th guarded by armed security. Most are off duty police and sheriff.

With 350,000,000 guns in the country. Your regulations going to take them out of the hands of all the Lanza's in the country? I don't think so.

I would rather see a Federal grants for school security, than a Federal grant for study of expelled bovine gases that effect the environment.

The anti gun that site the Columbine shooting....were they had a armed guard on duty that.....like to make it sound that armed guards don't work. But if you read of the events of the day. The armed security was patrolling in the parking lot, outside the building. He engaged one of the shooter with 4 rounds. Then a second security guard pulled up to engage the second shooter. Again all outside.

Liz, are you going to tell us that if the two had not been engaged....that they would not have taken more time to ignite the bombs....near 30 of them....in the school that day? Killing more and maybe burning the building down on the hiding students and staff?

Liz, am going to suggest those two security saved lives at Columbine.
All because they were there and they engaged the attackers. Changing their attack time line.

Most of those 10,000 schools that have armed security were put in place after Columbine. That is a decade. I cannot think of one that has had attack in the 10 years of armed security patrolling. I would have to check that.

So tell us how gun laws are going to keep 350,000,000 guns from the next Lanza, Liz.

I teach at rural school, minutes from the Mexican border. It would take police twenty minutes, at the least, to get to us. We have an unarmed guard at our front door. All other doors are locked. We have drills for armed attacks. Do I feel safe? NO WAY!!! We are at the mercy of any person(s) with weapons.

I have always believed guns are not a good idea for defense in a home. Any human is capable of picking that gun up in a moment of anger or psychological stress. This worries me when advocates think teachers should have one locked in their desk...teachers go crazy too. But I know that we are open season for armed crazies. It is time to have some type of protection. Yes, I have to admit...we need some kind of weapons for a few trained individuals. I would even say the principal should be armed. It saddens me to say this, but how much more tragic to have funerals for the innocent.

Why do so many people in other countries judge all Americans on the unintelligent actions and statements of a few? I will admit, this country is no where as wonderful as it claims and there are countless ways I would like to see it improve, however, the portion of the country that does have common sense and intelligent things to say largely goes unnoticed while the louder voices of the degenerates become the focal point of the whole world. The media is quick to announce all stories of the stupidity of some of our countrymen and it convinces anyone without a strong perspective that we all share the same views or these types of people are in the majority. Yes, like any country, we have a share of “special” individuals but many are quite normal. I do not favor blanket statements from people and I believe you should admit your error and I hope it brings a feeling of regret.

Secondly, yes I do like firearms (for target practice and the history) but I am not so ignorant to believe we should not have proper gun control laws. Conversely, removing all firearms from any society is ridiculous and illogical. The amount of money it would require to collect the millions of firearms would put this country in further economic distress. Many firearms would be hidden and the criminal element would retain these weapons or procure them from sources outside the country. Even those individuals who failed to obtain a firearm would continue their brutal ways if they have violent intent.

Violence happens regardless of the tools used and the actual crime is only the end result. Blaming weapons for crimes is like blaming like blaming your computer for your poor typing skills. Some countries understand this and have much lower levels of violent crime despite being gun friendly. In the USA, roughly 9,000 gun fatalities are recorded each year while many other countries have less than 200 in the same period of time. Logically, no matter the level of action taken, violent crimes will never dwindle to zero but there is no need for it to be as rampant as it is. We also must understand that there is no way to rehabilitate every individual since some people fall into the categories of psychopaths and sociopath. These individuals have abnormal physiological anomalies preventing normal brain function in the frontal lobe, amygdale, hippocampus, etc and it is unethical to detain individual based on the possibility of them committing a crime. It is also feasible we may be able to use technology to correct these abnormalities in the future, however, we are most likely several years away from this being realistic.”

You make a point Tom. We will never be able to take every gun off the street. That being said, do you think people are going to turn in their guns for a $50 gift card. Criminals who want to play with guns do it for fun.

Lanza didn't buy the guns, his mother did. Maybe she should have been questioned as to why she needed that particular gun that Lanza used. I understand that she liked to target shoot but is THAT gun isn't used for target shooting. If not, why did she buy it?

Lanza is at fault for killing but his mother is at fault for having guns in a house, around someone she wanted to put in a psychiatric facility. When Lanza heard that she wanted to committ him it appears that's when he let loose, according to authorities.

I don't think anybody has a good way of solving the gun problem in America. Criminals will always find a way to buy guns.

So what is the answer?

I never said I trust the government, in fact I don't. I responded to your question of do we know what the 2nd Amendment was written. The Amendment was written in a time of cowboys and indians; in a time when the government was slaugtering it's own people. Therefore, there was a need for citizens to defend themselves against the government and so the Amendment was written.
