From what I learned there is an invisible line one crosses over while drinking heavy daily. You do not know when you cross this line but once you do, drinking is no longer a choice. It becomes an illness and you must feed it. I was with an alcoholic for six years and I drank like five times a week. I never crossed that line thank God, I was able to just say no more for awhile. I still drink a few times a month one or two. Getting drunk is no longer fun as I always paid with feeling lousy the next day. So I agree they deserve a pat on the back for the strength and courage they have faced congratulations to all of you who went through it! cheering

Yeah, it depends on the individual, doesn't it? When I tell people I quit drinking and haven't drank in a few years, they say "congratulations," I'm like...what for? It's not like I'm struggling with it. I do know that for some it is a struggle, but people shouldn't automatically assume it is for everyone who has quit drinking. Not all drinkers are die-hard alcoholics who are doing all they can do to manage to function day by day without alcohol. I just wanted to present a different side, lest anyone get the impression that all people who used to drink struggle with it. We don't.

..oops..probably shouldn't use that emoticon, should I?

It would depend on the individual and I would maybe go as far as to say how much the individual drank and for how long.
You're right. Not all drinkers are die hard alcoholics.

Once again, as-per-usual, and as per always, just my .02 worth

As to depending on how much and for how long? Not necessarily...will explain further in a private email to you.
