Kinda silly question...but...I have a 14 year old son that wants his hair long....I HATE IT....His hair is Uber Curly...and it just looks like sh*t....no two ways about it....He's going for the Skate Rat look. I want it cut..and I MEAN CUT....so he looks like a young man rather than some damn degenerate. His Mom says....Let him have his individuality...I'm trying, I really am...but it's just so hard to look at my kid and think he looks like a damn slob. What say ya'll?

Everytime I look at my daughter dressed in black with skulls hanging everywhere I have to reassure myself that it is a growing phase. Just like the long haired hippy that my parents had to look at for so many years.

Nope, his hygiene is horrible. I have to tell him to take a bath every single day,...just like he's two years old. Have to make sure he's wearing deodorant and actually washing in the shower. I buy him heavily scented body wash...ala...Axe or Old Spice...so I know if he's bathing. I buy him new clothes...and he wants the stuff already ripped and looking dirty. Bought him new "skate" shoes...and he would rather wear his friends old ripped up sh*t than the new stuff...Makes me want to strangle him. He'll go stay at his friends house...play paintball, whatever, and come home smelling like ass. Then, poppa of all the poppas....they have a white microsuede recliner in their room...and he'll plop his nasty behind down on that and grab the computer.......auuuggghhhhh.....

Highplains, can't believe you have a teenage son. But, you know he will just be going through a phase, all teenagers do. He probably feels, that because you don't like it, he will be non-conforming, a rebel maybe. If you dig your heels in, he will become more defiant. Maybe use a bit of reverse psychology?? Let him have his way for a while and you will see the novelty wear off for him, when he knows its not bugging you? Just a thought.............
Dx.
(Okay, so I don't have children, but I was one once.....!!).grin hug

dunno do you really want me to answer that question?

but with my two sons i always let them say how they want to have their hair.but when they was little ever once in awhile just to piss them off,i would give them a crew cut.

but now since they are teenagers they still wear their hair short and always wanting to go and get a hair cut.

but i remember growing up how my dad was always making me get a haircut and how much i hated it.but over time he gave up and left me alone dunno

If he would keep it looking good, he could let it drag the floor, and I wouldn't care...hell, I even told him to put some lil dreads in it and wear it like Bronson Arroyo did a couple of years ago...looked cool as hell...but that sh*t is all over his head....it just looks horrible.

My daddy used to tell me that as long as my feet were under his table and I was living under his roof, I would wear my hair the way that HE wanted it.

I fought with my daughter for about a year on the way she would dress. It drove me crazy..She was a girl and I wanted her to look like one. She prefers baggy clothes and the boy look. Both my kids have told me that when they were younger, I always chose there clothes and haircuts and they would like to have a say so in that area.. My daughter would go to school and always sneak an extra set of clothes with her or borrow her friends clothes...When she was 10 she had long curly blonde hair..I loved it..She decided that she wanted short hair and cut it all off...I brought this topic up to there therapist one time... She just stated that is the fighting over there looks all worth the heartache?? No it wasn't!
It's just a stage with them wanting to try something different...

Hm ...yeah ...that's a tough situation ...

Is he intrested in any kind of sports? ... i mean maybe you could send him to play hockey or soccer or ... whatever

Just to make him busy ...

as for leight of hair .. i would not worry about this one. Just let it go ...give him chance to try it.

When my oldest son was 14 he had long hair
Now he is 17 and he prefers to have them short

The youngest 6 still has them long

Desicions, Desicions ...aren't a parenhood is all about them?

Toughsigh

Just like with the tongue-piercing thing, the operative word here is "kid." Who's the parent and who's the child?

dunno
