mollybaby: Life, I've yet to see an aboriginal or native American prime minister or president.
They are not treated with the respect they deserve, and still have to fight for their rights.
Because we need to create the conditions for it.
A few years back, I did attend a work meeting in another state and it was about "Rural women" and their opportunities to develop their own business, small and not to small. The women that attended from the state that I was at I said to them that they did not look any "rural", they were successful women one was very blond/green eyes and the others had all the gadgets that anyone in NY has but they live in rural areas and have done a productive-wonderful work to the extend that they make more than their husbands (and that can be a problem).
In that meeting, there was a politician native woman that had made it to the upper house she did speak her native language, perfect Spanish and English! She took the stand and her story was unbelievable her upbringing was in a state where daughters are trade for a cow because families are very poor. She had to walk many km everyday to go to school and she did.
the same meeting but other day, while waiting for the transportation outside the hotel we stayed at there came a "Huicholita" a woman from a ethnic group "Huicholes" and she did park just in front of us and she was driving a brand new pick up and she was wearing her native costumes and we were happily surprised
There are lots of work to do and if everyone puts a grain we could make a mountain.
Life, we have our own issues here. Not conquered v. conquerers but more a sub-culture. We have Irish Travellers who would have been historically nomadic and there is very little positive interaction between the two communities.

There has to be a point where both cultures could meet with respect for each other and both sides have to compromise, not an easy task but it has to be done.
