I am highly allergic and the odor sends me through the roof...I find so many potential matches smoke or say they are quitting but don't. It is just kind of sad and disappointing over and over.

I like that question too because I think I would quit if it meant saving a relationship but that hasn't happened. I have made big changes in my life to get closer to a partner.

If you are allergic then you mate should stop smoking. Period. That's a good start for a serious relationship (i mean respect). So i don't believe you should get dissapointed. I mean what would you do with a person who doesn't respect you?

yes, I think you have a good point and that is why I started the thread because I would think love and respect would over ride a habit.

Of course. And it's not that big sacrifice after all. If i smoked i would quit for my love.

And something else. I believe with the help of one's mate one can stop smoking more easily don't you think?

Yeah, it is hard to kick the habit. Us smokers who are "Trying to Quit" know that it is possible, but we are like drug addicts. It is sad. I will admit. One of these days.....

I so enjoy listening to non-smokers say what they would do if...

I mean, it's just so relevant too...anything.

Kind of like me explaining child birth.

Why is it that you used to never hear of anyone that was allergict to smoke untill the last few years?..confused

If you're that sensative then just going outside would be a danger to you're health ....I think its BS myself and mighty damned shallow..

Absolutely.
I don't believe you quit for anyone else but yourself
or you shouldn't. A person has to have their own
reasons for motivating them to quit. Don't believe
it would be very lasting to 'try' to quit for someone
else.

Just an addendum: points to ponder: 1/18/07

"Cigarettes are finely tuned drug delivery devices, designed to perpetuate a tobacco pandemic," said Howard Koh, an associate dean for public health practice who worked on the analysis. "Yet precise information about these products remains shrouded in secrecy, hidden from the public."

Gregory Connolly, head of the Tobacco Control Research Program at the Harvard School of Public Health, said the increase found in Harvard's study is due primarily to an increase in nicotine in the raw tobacco used in the cigarettes.

"There's something going on either with the type of tobacco they're using or the addition of more nicotine to the reconstituted tobacco. We just don't know," Connolly said

I used to smoke, and quitting was one of the hardest things I've ever done. I'm so glad I did though, and people should at least try for themselves, if not, the people around them!

I agree with you, now I can see if the person was a smoker and then quit, but when someone who has never smoked, tries too say how easy it is. It is easy too quit, I say too them, Walk a mile in my shoes, then tell me how easy it is, especialy after smoking for 49 years, aas I have. I have it in my profile, that I am a regular smoker, also had it in the narative portion of the profile, that way the woman that contacts me is well aware of it and it is their choice wether to contact me. Now, if the lady developed an illness after we were together, then I would try too quit, in the mean time untill I am succsesfull, I would not smoke in the house or around her. wine
