This is a serious topic..

So..I tend to think that intetrgity, per se, is not approached as it was, say 30 years ago..

It used to be that a handshake was as good as any contract..I used to mean, 'Til Death Do Us Part"

Now, it seems to be a lost art..Sadly...

I think all too often, people hold their beliefs or understanding of integrity as the standard by which all others should be judged. As with anything in our character – the “bag of stuff” we all carry in life is known only to us as individuals, and has shaped who we are – what we believe. To play God and judge another persons character, and to then feel upright and just in holding them to the light of your own candle for others to see, is both reckless and irresponsible – a true lack of integrity.

It is great to see so many constructive and intelligent comments here. It says something about the caliber of people on CS. I offer one last comment -

Honesty is one synonym for integrity. Either you are honest or you are not, there is no judgement in that only fact. Are there degrees in honesty? Many would say yes. A little white lie to spare someones feelings is acceptable to most of us and probably doesn't mean you don't have integrity. But, many might consider a dishonesty that is elaborate and planned and deliberate, a lie about something serious or life-treatening, not acceptable and without integrity.

We each know within our own hearts if we live with honesty and integrity and there is no way to run from that. We may be able to hide things from those near to us but eventually living without honesty and integrity will catch up with us. Those who do live with honesty and integrity - and stand by that no matter what others think of them - are left open to experience the good things in life.

This thread asked the questions "Has the virtue of integrity been lost in our generation? Do people really know what integrity is?"

As I said - only WE know within ourselves if WE live with integrity. I also believe that for the most part, people try to live their lives with inegrity. And there are also those who choose not to. Again, not a judgement but a fact.

Very few people live with integrity. As human beings we are so flawed, and mistakes happen. That doesn't mean the person has none.
I wish more had it. But, sadly, it's not the easy way to go, eh?

And, folks shouting, and pointing fingers at others doesn't qualify as integrity, either.

It is very difficult to believe what people, who we dont know, say may be the truth, the stretch truth, or a flat out lie. Integrity is there in all its just that some people seemed to be quite limited, thats for sure. With integrity comes honesty. Those are the qualities that are nice to find in others but seems so difficult anymore. help

I agree that honesty is a part of what intergrity is. The truth doesn't matter anymore in today's pop culture , quick fix society. It seems the bigger the liar you are, the more revered you become.blues What a sad stae of affairs we have created for future generations. We have to fix it.

I feel I know what it means, and I strive to live my life with it everyday. It is not always easy, but I strive.
