Since I have not dated for several years, I really don't know what to expect. I want that first date to have some sort of blushing possibly. I want some type of feeling that there is a chemistry hopefully. I know it might not happen at first. Any suggestions!confused confused confused

On a first date I'm always hoping they're "alive" and "coherent"...rolling on the floor laughing

Alive and coherent is good. My advice is don't expect, just see what happens. I had my first date in 20 years just 2 weeks ago, got lucky and found a non-jerk, so far anyway. Go with the flow and let what happens, happen. We're grownups now, spose to be anyway.

NO EXPECTATIONS
(M. Jagger/K. Richards)

Take me to the station
And put me on a train
I've got no expectations
To pass through here again

Once I was a rich man and
Now I am so poor
But never in my sweet short life
Have I felt like this before

You heart is like a diamond
You throw your pearls at swine
And as I watch you leaving me
You pack my peace of mind

Our love was like the water
That splashes on a stone
Our love is like our music
Its here, and then its gone

So take me to the airport
And put me on a plane
I got no expectations
To pass through here again

Yeah, alive and coherent is a good starting point!! I wouldn't have any real expectations, I am not one for pre-empting a situation as such but I would expect good manners. Bad manners just wouldn't do it for me...!

On a more serious note though....

I do expect them NOT to sample food off my plate....
I would appreciate if they wore socks with their shoes on the first date...
Do NOT regale me with stories of how amazing their blues dancing banana blues ....is

And certainly feel free to use their napkin.....grin

I would be nice if there was a salad bar that they didn't pile an assortment of salads of top of each other....how gross

Didn't talk about EX'S all night

Didn't talk as though they were positive we were having another date

Assume they were spending the night

Or say....My wife use to love coming here

Or...I have an early day tommorrow....soooo they leave after movie

Get a cell call....and make up a story to leave early

leave a Tip (a decent one)

Or if you leave tip and come back from restroom and observe him pocketing it!!!!

Just a few bad ones I've survived....D'oh!

guilty of the cell phone i go in withthe phone off and if it starts getting like running molasses I use the phone ruse to save us both time and the awkwardness...the date taking the tip, i've been with one of those..laugh
I tipped waitress, cause she had to tolerate my dates 'Know it all' bossy atitude

MY Expectations I keep them to a minimum....
be ready,
Be sober
Eat what you order or be prepared to take leftovers home,
Order for yourself... not the children at home
dress for the outing
a simple thank you.

The only thing I expect out of a first date is for him to show up on time and carry his end of the conversation.

Definately would expect good manners, of the mutual respect kind. Without those, all else is lost...poisons the potential development of 'chemistry'. Chemisty is an interesting analogy - going back to what we learned in our chem labs - some reactions take time and catalysts to build up, and the wrong reagent can stop them cold (LOL).

My list of neutralizing reagents:
being told what I want, and that they can give it to me rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing
being treated like their 'sounding board' rather than being in conversation
lack of eye contact
more interest in a blackberry or a cell phone than in getting to know each other through conversation

Good luck, and when you find the formula, please send it my way
grin
