I do my own using efile. They take you step by step so it is difficult to make a mistake. There is no charge until you send and it is very reasonable ($20 I think) and they will let you send state for free. You can have your refund direct deposited and you end up getting your money within a couple of weeks.

since i'm impatient, i use turbotax and pay the fifteen dollar filing fee...

but if i'd wait a few days, i could go through free-file from the link on the irs website and file for free.

I've had to do my own tax returns since I was 16, and used to have my mom check it over for the first few years, but she didn't do it for me. Haven't ever had anyone else do it, and have never had to pay in. Either came out even or got a refund.

I dunno, yet. The ex filed last year and claimed the kids while we were homeless...and, I wanted so bad to turn his ass in...

I'll find out more 'cause everything is different. I used to do them myself, then take them to h&r block...

I too have done my own taxes since I was 16. I use TaxAct throught the IRS website. It's free and remembers your info from the previous year. Last year I had my direct deposit refund in 8 days. It does not however, file your state taxes free. It will prepare them, but not send them.
