My first love was black. Actually, he was black/cajun/native American, but he looked predominantly black. I think being biracial made it easy for him to interact with a variety of people and he actually lived with a white family for awhile who themselves often took in foreign exchange students.
I was raised to be tolerant and I think being a part of my generation has made me somewhat color-blind.
The ONLY difficulty we had was my mother who was VERY uncomfortable with me dating someone who was black. She was very nice to him and liked him as a person but only knew the prejudice she'd seen in her own youth. Thankfully, Louisiana has a long history of racial integration and so interracial relationships don't care the racial stigma seen in other southern states.
He had experienced some prejudice and had fears about being a young, black male since there are so many stories of ignorant law officers. But race really never played much of a part in how we related. We were the same major in school and got along really well. Our relationship ended for alot of the same reasons found in couples of the same race.
