We were at my moms house the other day and my eight year old was on the nickelodeon site, she had strayed away from it and heard us talking about teens these days...Bad ass teens to be exact....well, she decided to type that in and added a dot com to it...and OMFG.....She screams..."I dont wanna be a teen, thats gross" and when I turned around and saw what was on the screen, I had her in a headlock and threw her out of the computer chair soooooo fast...but it was to late...she is scarred for life....I dont know if I was more mad that she typed that in, or that it was that kind of site......

sorry.....to gripe, anyone else ever have an issue like this? help

I don't know what she saw, but I doubt if she is scarred for
life. You might want to think about YOUR reactions to
things like this. Just have a sit-down talk with her about
what she saw, in a rational manner and explain to her what
good behavior is about. Parental controls for children at
that age would be a good start for y'all. Good luck.

Look up Blue Coat K9 Web Protection for your computer. It works wonderfully and keeps kids from any sites like this. Kids should never see this stuff and yes, it can scar them.

A similar happened when my son googled wild birds, meaning the feathered kind.
He didn't quite get what he expected, or maybe he did rolling eyes

Alot of times if you misspell an addy, than it goes straight to a porn site. Like if I do "www.connectingsingls.com" I will prolly goto a porno site.

I have parental controls on my computer....This happend at my moms while we were visiting, not something that she has all out access to! Yes, I may need to think about how I react....confused its real easy to say that AFTER it happens. Gee, it was like pulling her out of a fire you do things without thinking. I doubt that many parents would have just stood there and thought...Gee, now how should I handle this. I didnt literally put her in a headlock and THROW her...I guess typing lacks the expression needed to convey the message! anyway...D'oh! for those who dont think this leaves a scar...look at the number of kids that are in juvenile homes for inappropriate touching...they "Saw" that somewhere!! yep, I'd call that a tad bit of a scar! Its sad that they wont show it on TV but its all over the internet...argghhh...frustrated

The FCC has porn on lock down on broadcast, cable, and satellite tv. They have a hard enough time allowing Girls Gone Wild to air at Midnight. They don't want to, but they have to. Just like when I was in Minnesota a few years back, some time around midnight or later, they would advertise for one or two strip clubs on TV.

Depending on what they see it can scar them. If she happened to see a donkey show... I won't even go there. But someone who is that young might not fully understand what sex is, it could scare them.

But a lot of kids who see this stuff for the first time might not have access to the Internet. But when mommy and daddy leave the house "for just a minute" that doesn't mean they aren't lookin' around their parents' rooms for old tapes and DVDs. I know me and my friends did! But that was us and we were trouble makers. To an extent.

Poor baby, that really had to mess with her head.

Yep, my teen daughter asked about a site, I said just type it in and add dot com. she did, up pops "farmer sluts" freaked us both out! Now its over and done with, I'll tease her and ask if she's been on that site.

We got that thing with the net watcher on it now, no more porn since.

exactly, although it does suck that we live in a world that makes porn a 10 billion dollar industry in the US alone.

I had Blue Coat K9 Web Protection at one time. It didn't work as my son would move a file out of the program directory, reboot and then do what he wanted. When he was done, he'd put the file back.

Didn't work as I was seeing site addy's in the drop down of the browser, such as steakandcheese.com and others. Did I ever give him a dressing down. He was in his mid teens then

The Internet has actually gotten better than it was in 1995. Used to be porn looked for you. You would have all these porn pop ups no matter what you typed in. Porn made the Internet. All that wizardy in developing it from the Arpanet changed when the user friendly Internet changed from the disk operating system. There was a big difference in 3.1 where you had to type 'win' to go from dos to windows. Windows 95 was like where you go right into gui without having to mess with dos. Like the tobacco companies off free tobacco at work sites to get people addicted to tobacco porn offered free porn to get people addicted to porn then when the Internet police came to say what is and not acceptable they already had their customers hooked. Porn is big business and it thrives no matter what the moral majority tries it compensates.

I'll never understand why Jerry Springer can be on at 4 pm when the kids get home from school. Some of those programs can be just as bad, insinuating a lot of sexual crap.

I'll never understand why Jerry Springer can be on.. full stop.

Bad thing about the porn popping up, but I still wouldn't say the child is 'scarred for life' for just watching a glimpse of the stuff. Kids placed in juvenile centres are not there simply because they have 'seen' porn, I'm sure there are other more serious issues involved. And your daughter saying 'that's gross'... that means that she thinks it's gross.
You need to explain that yes, there are some gross things happening in this world, and that no, it doesn't make part of the 'everyday normal world'. And let it pass.
