I was an alcholic twice in the military, and the only thing i have done since (which is rarely) is have a glass of wine now and then. If you crave it don't give in to it, fight it. It's much better to be high on life......please believe me. MIKE

I personally have one or two mixed drinks on Fridays and Saturdays but never during the week. I feel that a couple (1-2) of drinks don't hurt. I also had the unfortunate experience of watching my father drink himself to death at the age of 44. I swore that I would never put my children(if I am ever blessed) through that pain. He was verbally abusive when he got drunk and ruined a lot of times that otherwise would have been great as I was growing up. I don't hold it against him but vowed to not follow in his footsteps. The point I'm trying to make is it's ok to enjoy a drink now and then but it's something everyone should try to do responsibly and in moderation.

Quitting drinking was one of the hardest thing that I ever did in my life. The longer I am clean the more careful that I have to be. I have more to lose today if I go back to drinking. If I forget what it was like and only remember the good times that I had and not the bad ones, than that can be dangerous for me. It is a daily thing. A friend of mine came to visit me last weekend. She had 14 years clean. She went back out drinking. Right now she is doing it in moderation she saids, but she has already went after two girls and beat them with a stick over a guy. Here she is in her late 40's and praticing a behavior she quit many years ago. All I could say to her is that this her choice and if she needs a friend she knows where I am. I remember those days and glad I am not there today. I do know a few people that are social drinkers and can handle it in moderation.

Lady Vixon, Sorry to hear about your husband and I respect your honesty. It sounds like it's been a long rough road for you to. I know how hard it can be with being a single mom with two young kids. My soon to be ex was an addict also. He split whenever he felt like it. My kids seen and been through alot. I finally decided to get help when they were around 4 and 6. The oldest remembers it all. Which is a blessing. It helps me to remember. My youngest does not remember none of it (which for her is a blessing) I got addicted to pain pills for over 2 years due to having severe gall bladder attacks and the doctors would not do surgery because I did not have insurance. I know how fraustrating that is. I never had a DUI (don't know how I escaped that) got into heavier drugs for a while. What got me the most was the person that I was turning into and the mother I always wanted to be and felt like I was failing. The guilt ate me up aliveand I didn't want to live anymore. I had to work hard to rebuild that relationship. My children are now 18 and 20 and today we are very close. Thanks for sharing your story.

If you think you might have a problem with alcohol, the best thing to do is not drink at all, people who don't have problems with alcolhol don't think about quiting. I've been clean & Sober for 16 years now & I wouldn't trade this Sober life for anything. Try going to Alcoholics Anonymous meetings in your area & get hooked up with some "Good Sober Woman", the will lead you on the path to Happiness & Sobriety!
Good Luck, Tom

The American Medical Association adopted a resolution at their annual general meeting in 1950 recognizing alcoholism as a disease. Society hasn't quite caught up to them, apparently. I have the disease. One of the symptoms is it tells You You don't have a problem..Denial. I have 12 years of sobriety, thanks to the Twelve Steps of AA. I used the same Steps to quit smoking 5 years ago. I smoked for 42 years......
All the best.....Some people find that ingesting a toxic substance enhances theit life...It never did make my life better....
If You're wondering.....perhaps better safe than sorry....
