''Muslims believe in the same God as Christians do, Carol. Jesus is mentioned in the Muslim Qur'an far more than Muhammad.... Different styles of worship, but similar prayers, similar theological beliefs. Jesus is one of the prophets of Islam. Muslims embrace the teachings of Christ without any reserve. The major difference is that Muslims also believe that there was a revelation after Christ's, that of Muhammad the Prophet, who came along some 600 years after Jesus.''

Ocean5555, thats a great amount of information for non-muslims. Being a muslim, I am thankful to you :)

I was once praying and a Christian friend of mine was watching me with great interest and respect. It was nice to know that my christian friend respects what I believe in. We then had to attend a dinner, and it was nice to see that 2 different types of prayers (muslim and christian) were said before eating food.

A couple of days after that, we went to a small christian prayer house which was up above the mountain and I am not sure if I was the first muslim saying prayers in that prayer house.

I had intended to visit the local church too but due to some personal reasons I could not go there.

Muslims are nice people unless and until they are not taught wrong, narrow interpretations of Islam. According to Islamic literature the acquisition of knowledge is a must for every Muslim man and women. And its a pity for us to see so many Muslims being illiterate. We need to work really hard in education. This would benefit not only the collective society of Muslims but the whole world.

I would have to say that I probably would not date a muslim. That is
a real sincere one. They spend so much time praying that they hardly
have time to do anything else. Maybe this is why there culture seems
so backward in time. Imagine me on a long road trip and having to
pull over every few hours to let my companion kneel on the ground,
face east and pray. Not too exciting for me.
We have to pray 5 times a day and no prayers take less than 5 minutes and more than 15 minutes (this varies from person to person too ... I have seen guys praying as if they are not praying but doing an aerobic exercise which should be finished before 60 seconds. but the average duration is 5-15 minutes)

In case of matters like travel, sickness etc, muslims are given quite a bit of relaxation. I have travelled many times with muslims and I have seen my fellow muslims praying in a sitting position (not much kneeling etc, no need to face to a specific direction) many many times. Even I have done so a few times (although being a bad muslim I do not pray as regularly as I should)

I hope this cleared a few misconceptions. Have a nice weekend.

A lot many prayers and a lot of practical good work is ofcourse needed keeping in view how many are being suffered in today's world because of poverty, epidemics, global warming, terrorism and regional conflits etc.

Have a nice weekend.

Gosh! What's wrong with you people? What's the difference between being a Muslim, or Orthodox, or,...or Black, or White? It means nothing! At least not to me! What matters to me is if that person is good-hearted, a good caring nature, ready to love me, to give and receive, and not to cheat on me...and of course why not even a Muslim if we are the right match! What's the difference between having a Muslim cock in your boxers, or anything else if that one matches my Pussy and makes me feel hot, horny, satisfied, feeling good and in love.
rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing applause cheering head banger

That was an answer dropping jaw

Yes i woud and have datet a muslim, but i am not sure i woud marry one.
As many others have said, i have to have my space and my own belifes.
And i live in a cuntry where pig meat is commen to eat, there is a littel gap there laugh one ones asked me if i woud give pigs meat up, if we woud be together. I had to say no blues i love a good hotdog and ribsteak. sorry!

But the new generations of muslims i Denmark is werry integrating and are werry split. Because on the one side they have there parrents that wants them to be good muslims and on the otherside they live in a cuntry with a verry open and difrent system.
The danish women is something difrent then the muslim girls.
So i think that we in the futuer will se som changes, the new generations will finde a way to combine the two thinges and make there own integrated familys.
It takes time for all to aksept and compromice, like a marrige grin

i read some of the replies to this thread and i wasn't surprised to see the vast majority, especially women, saying yes, they would date a muslim..............i think u need to know about islam and how they treat their women b4 answering these kind of questions......i am originally from the middle east (non muslim) and women there are treated like slaves and not just that, but muslims think woman has 1/2 of man's brain.......wake up, people,,,,,,,i would never date someone who belive their religion is superior and everyone else outside that religion should be killed, and i am not making that up, go read their book and u will know and better yet,,,,read the comments that ex muslims leave (mostly quoting their holly book, Quran) and why they left http://www.faithfreedom.org/testimonials.htm .................seriously, people in the west need to wake up and come out of their ignorance about other culturs and religions...........

You may say you are from the Middle East, but it seems to me that you know very little about Islam and the way it is practised. Would you care to tell us a bit more about how you are 'from the Middle East', and what genuine experience you have had with Muslims?

As you can imagine, we are not fond of pretenders here on CS.

Qur’an 9:29:
"Fight those who do not believe in Allah, nor in the latter day, nor do they prohibit what Allah and His Messenger have prohibited, nor follow the religion of truth, out of those who have been given the Book, until they pay the tax in acknowledgment of superiority and they are in a state of subjection."

Welcome to CS, Zakho. Ahlan wa sahlan.

Is it true that Zakho is primarily a Jewish town? 1,500 Jews, 100 Christians, and the rest, I assume, Muslim. And that it is located on an island? And involved in the Armenian genocide? All this from a couple of quick on-line sites. It sounds very interesting.

But my guess is still that you know little about Islam and the social practices of Muslims. or perhaps in this msall village the practices of Muslims are abnormal? You see, what you describe regarding women is completely abnormal for the Muslim world.

So that you know: I do know a lot about the Middle East and about Islam. I invite you to go back to earlier postings in this thread to see a larger discussion, and then return here in the context of this discussion. No sense in my haviong to type duplicative material here again.

Thanks for the sutra: but of course is doesn't say anything about the treatment of women, and does in no way support your comments about the treatment of women in Islam.

Sorry to hear about your cousin. I am interested in hearing more about this incident. When did it happen? Where? What actually happeend? I am sure there is more to the story! It might make sense for you to reply directly to my CS mailbox on this.

Again, Ahlan bik.

I need someone who believes in the same God I believe in. Also that Jesus died to save me from my sins. I guess I've had so many that's why I feel that way I had a great deal of hardship in my life and I've learned the power of prayer. I need to be able to pray for and with the person I get involved with. I have a need to talk about my faith.
I am not a christian yet I believe that his holiness jesus did die for your sins.

His book has withstood the test of time.

It prevails even when the tools to write it exist not.

I do not have to be a christian to believe.

Because I have faith.

and there is only one god.

I kneel before his glory in my spiritual reality.

and he effects my physical reality.

as I said before ... Religion subverts science, fosters fanaticism, encourages bigotry towards homosexuals, and influences society in many other negative ways…

All religion is one-sided and is only an excuse for bad behaviour, in the name of whatever god you worship ...

One has to ask the original poster, why did he pick Muslims?

Why not Sikh, or Buddhist?

Let see...

to me it says

Fight FOR people who believe in god (Allah).

I have read parts of that book.

Did you know that they also reference the prophets of the old testament.

Ocens....ahlan wa shlan beek....

i will tell u about zakho when i e-mail u, but for now, i want to make something clear,,,ur still saying "i know little about islam" my response to that, is i have to laugh first hhhhhhhhhh, and then put some quotes that mohamad (the prophet of islam) himself said about women, and i will let u and other readers decide....... true muslims believe in their books and what their prophet says, don't they? here we go....

Once the Messenger of God went out to a prayer place to offer the prayer of Greater Bairam or a Lesser Bairam. Then he passed by the women and said, "O women! Give alms, as I have seen that the majority of the dwellers of Hell-fire were you [women]." They asked, "Why is it so, Messenger of God?" He replied, "You curse frequently and are ungrateful to your husbands. I have not seen anyone more deficient in intelligence and religion than you. A cautious sensible man could be led astray by some of you." The women asked, "What is deficient in our intelligence and religion, Messenger of God?" He answered, "Is not the evidence of two women equal to the witness of one man?" They replied in the affirmative. He said, "This is the deficiency in your intelligence. Isn't it true that a woman can neither pray nor fast during her menses?" The women replied in the affirmative. "This is the deficiency in your religion," he said.(12)

"One woman, of 99 women, is in heaven, and the rest of them are in Fire."(16) "Fire has been created for the senseless, the women, except for the one who obeyed her husband."(17) "Men perish when they obey women."(18) "Men are in a good state as long as they do not obey women."(19)

Muhammad gives us another reason why men should fear and beware of women: "Beware of women; the first temptation among the Children of Israel was caused by them;"(20) "I fear no temptation that would befall my people but for the temptation of women and wine;"(21) and "But for the woman, man could have entered paradise."

The woman has no right to behave as though she possesses any authority or influence over her husband, for Muhammad "forbade women to talk except by leave of their husbands."(23) Also "Women are not allowed to go out except out of necessity, but for the occasion of the two feasts: The Greater Bairam and the Lesser Bairam. They are also not allowed to walk down the roads, but keep to the edges of the street."(24) "Women are not allowed to use the middle of the road."(25) "Women are not to be greeted nor to greet."(26) "A believing woman is the same among women as a white-footed raven among the ravens. Fire has been created for the senseless, and women are the most senseless of all."(27) If the woman wanted to clear herself of this charge, she had to serve her husband.(28)

In another tradition Muhammad described women as "unclean" creatures. In a Hadith, Muhammad says, "Three things corrupt prayer: Women, dogs, and donkeys."(29) "The Messenger of God said, 'A man's prayer is interrupted if a donkey, black dogs, and women pass by him nearby.' So I said, 'What difference is there between the red one, the yellow one, and the white one?' He said, 'My brother, I asked the Messenger of God just as you asked me. He said, "The black dog is a devil." ' "(30) In a another tradition given by Ibn Abbas, the fire-worshipper, the Jew, and the pig are listed alongside the woman as things that corrupt prayer. The prayer of a Muslim is corrupted if "they pass by him as far as a rock could be thrown."(31)

"'The woman has two things to cover her: the grave and marriage.' It was asked, 'Which of them is better?' He said, 'The grave.' "(36)

i think this is enough for now.............. ma'a salam

Religion, when practiced by one of faith.

teaches values to the young.
promotes growth.
creates communities.
gives shelter to the needy.
Goes not into anothers spritual space without invitation.
Guides others not by pointing out the path, but by accepting they know that path and walking it firmly so if it can be seen and followed.
