I used to have good credit (720)

Now after lots of unforseen health problems, surgeries, and bills...my credit is horse poop!!!

How do you improve your credit after hitting rock bottom?

Hmmm.... I'm curious on that too. My credit was like so so, I've never had any major cards and don't owe any large some of money or anything. But I got a car loan, been on time every single month for 3 years now, even shows me green on the little credit score thing. I went for a loan for school from the same bank (my bank, btw) and they denied me saying my credit wasn't good enough!@!!

Credit isn't easily mended but you can work at it.

Try and obtain what's called a secured credit card. This is basically a credit card that requires you to deposit an amount, say $500.00, with the credit card's issuer and in return you can use the credit card to the tune of of that amount, i.e., $500.00. You still make your payments and you will be charged an interest if you have an outstanding balance. After a while you will demonstrate a pattern of making payments on this card.

Another good way is to get a bank to finance an automobile for you. If, as you say, your credit is bad you will be charged a high interest rate but the bank will be willing to loan you the money knowing that the car would act as collateral. After a year or so you should see an improvement in your credit rating.

Good luck!

Well I know how I began with good credit.

They look at:

Cell phone bills
Phone/internet/cable bills
Utilities
Student loans
Credit Cards
Auto Insurance

^I had all of these and paid them on time and the longer you've had them helps...like having a credit card over 5 years

Now they all show I had been delinquentblues

Should I cancel my credit cards and get new ones?

Would that help or hurt?

What should I do?

Will it edventually get better on its own by paying them timely again?

I dunno!

Cut up the credit cards. Pay off the balances as soon as possible.

There seem to be links that magically appear at the top of this page on the subject. I know there's a lot of free credit counseling out there.

Of course, you have sound reasons as to why this happnened. I'm no expert, I can only say from my own experience - mine was none-to-good some time back. It took a lot of time, patience, and careful bill-paying, but today it was definitely worth it. I'm sure everything will work out just fine for you with the right strategy (and that patience thing).
