I don't know what men would be called, but I refer to a steady (god that really dates me) as a "Ladyfriend". I think it shows respect.

"Girlfriend" does sound a little trite for my age.

"Future wife" seems a bit too much.

"The significant other" - see above.

"The woman" sounds a little backwater.

"My woman" sounds a little possessive.

"Her" sounds a little sarcastic. Same for "She."

Damn. Maybe "girlfriend" is not so bad. dunno

I generally refer to my lady simply as... My lady. Occasionally, I'll use the term fiance' because we are indeed, engaged to be married. I have a sticker on the wing window of my truck that was there when I started for the company. It reads; "I love my wife." And I see no reason to change it or explain that we're not married yet.

Even before we became engaged, I called her my lady. She generally refers to me as @#$#$%!!
(Just kidding! She refers to me as... Don.)

Hi Debwave

I don't know how it is back in the UK, but Partner, as an intimate significant other, may be perceived as same gender relationship back here....not that there anything wrong with that ehemgiggle

I like "ladyfriend," although that's what I call one of my best friends back in Detroit. "My lady" sounds nice as well. And hey, Don's engaged so there's some real merit there.

Damnit, let's just invent something... grin

I just introduce him as my friend "insert name here". It's quite obvious from how we interact with one another that he is my boyfriend/man/lover/the one I'm with/the one one I'm going home with.

cool
