should intelligent people or those with common sense intervene to prevent stupid from being taken advantage of, or making a mistake?

I think it sorta happens in most of the developed world...social services and other Governmental agencies. Limited but there.

Sometimes very intelligent people get taken advantage of or make mistakes.

Should we intervene to prevent this also?

Only if they are kind people who deserve the help…

If they are wretched, then “survival of the fittest” applies here!!!

Social Services isn't really a help here. It is more like a crutch and certain social workers treat their caseloads like crap.

Agree, if they don't at least try to help themselves, then you are not really helping them by intervening..

I have intervened in that situation many times. I also intervene where children and the developmentally challenged are involved and may be at risk.

However, in general, how does one know that the other is heading for a mistake? Frequently we make assumptions based on incomplete information.

And why the emphasis on stupid? How do you tell if someone is stupid?

No I think it is more like mean people putting down people that are down on their luck. Of course if you go out and have like 10 kids just so you can stay on welfare and not work, then you are just lazy and stupid and deserve what you get. But if you are really just down and lost your job or husband/wife left you and have no where else to turn and just need a little help until you get back on your feet you don't deserve to be treated like trash.
