As you may know from the News, this weekend my country experienced a tragedy...right now , there are almost 100 fires all over Greece....during the weekend 60 people lost their lives because of the fires, hundreds of houses are burned to ashes....the sky has lost its blue colour, the air is filled with smoke...its an endless tragedy....

The ancient site of Olympia in Peleponese surrendered to the fires...its realy a sad day today...for all Greeks wherever they live.....for all Greece, the cradle of culture, knowledge and arts....

Just wanted to share this with all of you, in memory of all those people who lost their lives in my beautiful country, and express my sadness and grief... you can post a reply if you care enough...

Thank you for reading this
sorry to hear about the fires in your country hug .hope it all ends soon hug hug you will be in my thoughts kiss

Is this happening to the islands as well as mainland Greece??

I have heard that you are suffering 50 degrees c,,,122 deg F?

Condolences to your fellow countrymen.
The mainland is mostly affected by the fires-the only island with problems right now (huge ones) is Evoia...This summer we had a continious dry season with very high temperatures for days and weeks.....

Dear Plesia,..as we couol see on tv news,..all this is most of times 'caused by people giving fire to fields and woods !!

In Italy we had/have the same problems,..and right now we have more than 100 fires in our beautiful Sicily .

But the problem is actually very far from these burnt fields and woods !!

The problem is in our PARLAMENTS !!!

In Greece as in Italy,..we have old/stupid/corrupted deputies that don't change old /out of age laws !!

These laws aloud to build up new constructions on burnt lands !!

So,..is just enough to burnt a wood to be able and aloud to build up something new !! And our deputies get "black money" to give licenses for it !!

Spain had the same problem,..but good luck its deputies looks like being much more nicer and less corrupted than ours !!

They create a new law that say that is impossible and forbidden to build up on a burnt land for the next 15 years after the burning moment !!

SINCE THAT LAW,..FIRES SLOWED DOWN SO MUCH IN SPAIN,..and remember that Spain is even drier than Italy and Greece !!

What is really sad and in a way ORRIBLE,..is that 60 people died for these way to run our countries by our deputies !!

I also believe that some of thes fires will be completely natural and spontaneous,..but please,..no more than the 10% !!

thumbs up

I agree with what you are saying- we have laws in Greece which DONT ALLOW to build upon burnt woods and land-but even so - fires are all over the place...they talk about some kind of Masterplan, having in mind the coming up elections in September-its a sad world we live in-crazy, mean people without brains seem to be getting what they are afterfrustrated frustrated frustrated

Greece will not be the same again....The fire destoyed a large part of the mainland....And the politcians did nothing....People died, houses were burnt to the ground....What these people will do...And now the lack of a proper goverment, which will forsee events is more evident than ever. People try to fix something after it is damaged....They don't take care to prevent the damage....And after some time all this will be forgotten and the citizens will return to their normal lives like nothing happened...The cities are safe anyway....I just hope that citizens wil take the situation on their hands and take a more active role in the problems that plague the modern society...The enviromental problem and the problem of proper democracy....

So 62 people died for nothing....They families will mourn but afterwards they will forget who is responsible for all this...The goverment and themselves, the citizens....When a disaster happensand the country is not ready to deal with it then everyone in the country is responsible....People cannot see further than their ownn feet...They don't understand the grand scheme of events...they just care to have a good life and nothing else...That way the major problems will never be solved....

I feel pity for these people because they prepeared a future for my generation and our children which will be a lot worse...

Two things that few people may be thinking of are:

Is it possible that this is not a case of simple arson? Is it possible there is another force behind these fires, like terrorists? Fire is a powerful weapon. 1 man with a match can do more damage than a hydrogen bomb under the right conditions.

These fires along with huge fires burning all over the western US are putting tons of greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere at a time when they are most unwanted. This is aggrevated by the fact that the very things that remove CO2 namely trees and green vegetation are being destroyed accelerating global warming. If you ever wonder how serious global warming is, just look at the planet Venus. Venus is completely covered with a thick blanket of greenhouse gasses and the surface temperature of Venus can reach 900 F. Lead melts at 621 degrees!

Maybe the plan is for all of the worlds population to be martyred to Allah? My only question is where are all these virgins going to come from? And what about female martyrs, do they get 6 male virgins?

Thanx for sharing your interesting view on this matter-and as I mentioned earlier, its very likely that all of this tragedy was planned and done of course on purpose by......well....thats the big question.....terrosrists? possible.....I just hope it stops here-but we are still in a very difficult and dangerous situation, even Athens itself-62 souls until now-God rest themmoping blues
