...wasn't it soooo much easier laugh . This thread is for anyone to post a fond childhood memory, and if you can accompany it with a picture...Here's mine..laugh blushing

This picture was taken when I was five years old (1975). My grandfather took me and my brother fishing for the first time in our lives...Pardon the pun...I was hooked after catching this bass.

We were fishing with Jitterbugs, a top water lure made to look like a frog...As the 2 foot long 6 pound bass hit the lure the water erupted violently...My Grandfather broad jumped onto a log on the water and started hollering and cheering me on...He yelled "Don't lose it!...take it easy...REEL!!REEL!!!REEL!!!" I had just landed the second largest bass ever taken from the lake at the age of five....rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing
My grandfather hung the picture in his ceramic shop for 20 years, and told the story to all who asked with all the drama of the actual moment...I could never figure out why he made such a fuss about it until I grew up, and realized it may be the biggest bass I ever catch. I haven't even come close if you are wondering rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing . I cherish the picture, the story, the moment, and most of all my grandfather...My Pap...He gave me the love of the outdoors that day, and an appreciation for nature in all its beauty.

I checked out your profile to match the face....
I remember playing baseball and playing with baseball cards on the street corner with my friends...whenever I think of those days the sun is always shining.

I remember playing hopscotch with my friends, that lived across the street from me there in Beaumont, Texas (outside of Houston). We'd play hopscotch, double-dutch jump rope, race down the sidewalk to see who was the fastest runner, and go to the park (about 1 block from where I lived) and go to the pool there. It was so much fun being a kid. I sure miss it.

I mean if you're friend asked you, "what do you want to do?" you knew and you just done it. Now as a grown up and meet up with new people it's not as easy. It's either a damn bar, museum, to eat at a restuarant, or whatever. It's not as fun anymore.

Simple is good...Thinking of those times allways can or should bring a smile to your face..

I'm truly amazed at how we played Hopscotch for hours along with Jacks AND Jump Rope! My favorite times were gathering a bunch of friends to play baseball across the street in the empty lot. We found JUST enough gloves, two bats and one old baseball; enough to put us in hog heaven til it got dark and then it was time to go home! If we didn't get home by dark, we get whooped!!! haha

Simple times, good times, and SAFE times for sure!wink

fond memories of playing marbles....I had tons of 'um too....clearsies, aggies...cats eyes........what fun it was. I would play outside any season from sun up till sun down. I was just telling someone this weekend when I spotted a blue barrel lying on the ground how I used to get in it with a gf and we would roll down the hill in my yard. Used to rake leaves and there were so many in the fall and jump in them-winter was sledding right down the street on a runner sled or in the neighbors field on a hard crust with a flying saucer.....yeah...thanks for this thread and dredging up fond memories!
