The other day this little message showed up on the instrument panel in my taxi. It said, "Check Fuel Cap."

So I checked the fuel cap. Even after I checked the fuel cap the message stayed lit. I thought maybe the car didn't realize I had checked the fuel cap so I checked it a few more times.

Dang message is still there. Are there any mechanically inclined people out there who can tell me how many more times I have to check the fuel cap before that message goes away?

Check the fuel cap once a day for at least 6 months... If it is still on, return the vehicle.

Actually, the same thing happened on my car awhile ago. After checking the cap and ignoring the light for a bit, I decided to ask my friend who's a mechanic. He told me that the computer in my car monitors stuff for emissions and the gas cap was one of the things that it monitors. He put on a new gas cap and everything is fine.

Using this logic, the check fuel cap light came on and I needed to replace the fuel cap. So, what happens if the check engine light comes on? rolling eyes LOL

Check the sensor in your dash. We have a lot of problems like that with our buses here. Usually they replace the sensor or light and the problem goes away. Good luck.

put the key in turn it so the instrument panel lights(dont start the car)shut the key off, pump the pedal 3x fast than start the car.Light should go out if all is good. That resets the computer .
