Help! Everyone around me is...

Posted: Sep 24, 2007, 9:55 AM CST
...so depressed! help

Okay...so lately everyone around me, and those that I pretty much "have" to be around, has been/is majorly bummed out and depressed. I try to be upbeat, positive, and even limit my exposure when I can, but...it's starting to wear on me. Now, I'm finding myself getting all bummed out, depressed, and even irritated - because everyone else around me is!!!!!!!! D'oh! Is there really anything I can do, besides try to not let it get to me (which isn't working very well)???

comfort I am sorry you are having a hard time Red. What I had to learn a long time ago, and is still a process I have to work out...is not to let others have control over my emotions.
Easier said than done, however. Breathe girl, just breathe! wave comfort hug

Try this: When you find yourself with a depressed person and it's bringing you down, point at their feet and chuckle! After you've done this a few times, it actually gets to the point where you can't HELP but laugh. Then you let them in on the "joke" and go after someone else. The more people who get in on this, the funnier it will become. If someone takes offense, then let them in the "joke" early and explain what you're doing.

The idea behind this is that laughter will always help. Even forced laughter will become genuine after doing it a few times and realizing how silly it is.

Luck to you!

rolling on the floor laughing

You've done the right thing, come out here and post asking for help. It worked for me yesterday.

Just knowing there are so many people who are willing to make you feel better should lighten your mood...

It is very difficult when those around you are bummed alot...gets really old really fast. The best thing to do is try to limit your exposure to them, but not have them feel you have abandoned them. It is a tough spot to be in...I am sorry. I know it is hard to deal with. comfort hug

I just feel so... at a loss here. And trying to keep my own mood/state of mind "up" is getting to be extremely difficult.

I know what you mean, perhaps you need to remind yourself that you have a good life and you aren't the one who is depressed.. It is great to provide comfort to others, but sometimes you may have to put yourself first.
