I believe they can work.. when you really care about someone it can be hard but I'd rather be in a long distance relationship with someone I care about than not be with them at all.. and most often couples do make plans for someone to move in the future. For me to pack up and move my life the man would have to be pretty special but he would prove to me just how special he is when he wants to make a long distance relationship work.
How do you all feel about long distance relationships?
I been divorced for over 7 years now and it seems to me that having a long distance relationship is better than what I've had before.
I agree that a long distance relationship can work if the two people really care for each other.

I just realized the obvious...

Of those who are HERE, there's a good chance that EVERY relationship we've been in has eventually failed.
hmmmm, not necessarily true... I dont think it as a failure; I think of it as Trial and Error...

A few months ago I did said long distance relationship would not work, However, at that time I was talking to the wrong kind of person for me.

Now I do believe it does work, If he is willing to come to live with me , that is....grin cool wine

I was in one and eventually married her. From that experience I've made the decision that I'll never move into her territory ever again. If she wants me to move... she'll have to meet me halfway - literally. She'd have to move too.

All I can say is this; Everyone is different and its like the game called Memory, need to match the two cards together in order to win!

I believe they can work IF you are visiting often are able to maintain the sexual, emotional needs of each other.

If you didn't...there is no way it would work. you would end up seeking out someone else to fill in a void until you saw your partner again.

I believe they can work, as long as its not always going to be that way. One or the other of the 2 people involved is going to have to make the commitment to move closer, otherwise it can just fall apart.

i think it depends on the people involved & what they each want out of the relationship, if they don't need or want to be around someone 24-7 then it could be the ideal type of a relationship, but sooner or later someone will want more. Then what? Who moves & there's a down side to long distance relationships you never know if the person your getting ready to change your life for has been up front with you about what they were doing while you were 500 miles apart. until its to late, For me personally i could not have one for a long time i would want to see, talk and touch the person that i might be spending my life with. But then again it depends on how much you see each other already. Just remember if your in a long distance relationship your not giving yourself a chance to met anyone else that might be a lot closer to you. javascript:emot('');

I have to agree with a lot of what you're saying..am trying to make one happen as speak. It's very difficult, communication is crucial, & much effort is required from both parties. I guess if the people involved are a bit distant from each other emotionally, then maybe by only seeing each other once in a while the relationship would last longer.

That's what I'm going thru right now...getting lonely because I haven't seen him for 3 weeks, so looking for more attention elsewhere...

I know they can work for awhile anyway, I was in one for 8 yrs. We just grew apart that time. Of course though I just lost a guy Icare about alot because we were to far apart. He said the distance was to far, it was only 141 miles. But they can and do work if both parties want them to and are willing to work at it.

I've had some bad ones, and I do not think I'd be inclined to ever try again. I think the biggest mistake for me was actually believing that it was the same as a normal relationship. Its not. I would have been better served just to think of it as a long distance friendship.

Some people might be able to make it work, but not me. I need someone to hold every so often. Phones and email doesn't cut it:)

IMO I feel it depends on the couple, were all diffrent, want diffrent things in life and love.So sure for some of us it can work if you know ahead it may be work to maintain it.I'd relocate if I visited my new home area and was comfortable.I don't know if I could do it,1st let me find the man and then after getting to know him I would decide.

Hmm, I guess I have something of a different perspective on this as I've been planning for years to move overseas eventually. So for me, starting something online with someone in the UK wouldn't necessarily be long-distance for too long. Of course, it all depends on the two people involved. I think long distance can work as long as the relationship is moving toward eventually NOT being long-distance. I think that as long as both parties are open and honest with each other, it can work quite well. Distance is an obstacle, but it's definitely not the only one a new couple faces.
