I used to talk to a lady like that all the time.

I was a teenager working at a local grocery store. This old lady would come in frequently, and I would greet her pleasantly.

"Hi, how are you today?"

"Not too good, I'm dying", those were her first words to me. I was stunned into silence, and just stood there gawking awkwardly. (gawking awkwardly say that three times really fast)

One day she told me that, "Jesus is coming this Summer to take us all home."

One time I got, "I can't drink milk...It's poisonous! Paul Harvey said so, and he don't lie!"

I was never annoyed by it...I always found it amusing. Except for that very first time.

What is the matter with you people?? Because she was a "stranger" to you, that would warrant dismissive behaviour towards her? I have know the kindness of strangers.... it doesn't cost anything and isn't any hardship to pass the time of day, does it?? Chances are, they don't want or expect anything from you... they just want a little inter-action, is that so bad...?

I was sitting at McDonalds, and some lady leans over,

" I shouldn`t be eating this greasy food,
I have a spastic colon"

gotta agree with you rose it doesnt cost anything and some people are lonely and just want to have a bit of social interaction especially the elderly. so in my opinion a few minutes not gonna do any harm

I love talking to people when I am shopping,queing, window shopping etc.
Sometimes just a couple of sentences, other times have great chats with people I have never met before or may never see again. Most of the time they make me laugh and brighten up my day.
