Last night I was talking on the phone with my brother who is 11 years younger than me. I told him about the new engine that I'm building for my jet boat. He said that I should get rid of my boat, my hotrod, my little red sports car, my motorcycle, and start acting my age.
I guess my question is. Just how the hell should a 50 year old guy act? Maybe I should trade my boat for a rocking chair?

Pfft! Starr.. ignore that.. You've only got one life.. live it any way you please. .. and 50's not old..

yanno I read a thing a while ago that said 60 is the new 40!..

Because people act (and often look) soo much younger nowadays.

So you haven't even HIT middle age by a long shot yet :)

Um...that's an awfully judgemental thing for him to say. I think your brother needs to climb down off his high horse and start acting HIS age.

If these things make you happy in your life, then "to thine own self be true" my friend.

Next time he tells you to act your age, say, "Hey...it's MY age and I'll act it out however I damn well please." grin

Judgemental people make my fists itch... very mad

I would have just simply told him that if he dosn't want you to tart telling him how to live his age and act his age then tell him to mind his own business. Could it be he is just jealous because you got all that stuff and he dosn't?

Hey as long as you respect the others and don't act like total idiot and immature then your fine. The items you have such as your boat and car and such. Those are your hobbies. Everyone has them (hobbies not the cars and boats lol) And if they make you happy then so what what others think.

cheers

I don't think you should hang up your biking boots and don a pair of slippers just yet. You are only 50... if you are still enjoying life, go for it!!! I don't think there's any hard and fast rule about how you should act......

Your brother probably forgets that when he is 50 chances are he won't feel he should slow down and get a rocking chair, eh?
cheers

Now you know you should be getting up in the morning, taking a stroll to the park where you'll meet your other 50 yr old men friends and sit for the day either playing chess or gaulking at the 20 yr olds girls.....after that wears you out, it'll be time to go home and take a nap before dinner at the community inn.....laugh

You go boyeeee, your toys just got bigger and more expensive, that's all....hug

Hey Gang:

I'm here to say....AND....WITH great AUTHORITY......................50 is NOT OLD.!!

It shouldn't be called, "Act your age", it should be called "Act with maturity". That can come at almost any age...........But............the problem is that those without it just don't recognize that they haven't got it,............. until they GET it.

Anyone can understand that there are MANY things we would have liked to do when we were much younger, but life didn;t present us with the time or the money...If you have both now...hell....have a ball with those cars and boats and toys....and, please don't let your brother put a damper on what you've been able to acquire......and, if you were a really good brother, you wouldn't even tell him, "I told you so."...when he gets to be 50.

Just the thoughts of an ancient oracle....

My thought is you are as old as you feel.....I think if you are enjoying your "toys" don't change anything.

Your brother sounds a little like he envies you... maybe you have things that he would like to have.

I wouldn't change anything you are doing....
