Me too, but sometimes we have to accept that, that is thier laws and ways, we may not agree with them yet it is not our place to disagree and look down on them for it...

You cannot go to another country and expect them to change thier laws for you, now is your ignorance of thier laws an excuse to keep you out of thier jails....kiss kiss

Makes me thankful that I live in the country that I do.
and last week a boy, I think 14 of French nationality was gang raped by Saudi men the parents tried to press charges and the boy was arrested for inciting it , taking part in a homosexual practice. He is looking at several years in a Saudi prison. The family has appealed to the French Govt. for help.
One of the men questioned said he had aids...
The Saudis are an extremist and bizarre sect of the Muslim teachings, of which most do not condone...but the Saudis are so damn rich, they have become a law unto themselves. Last but the least, they are friends with the Bush family...that also excuses Saudis from any justice. Sick world.

It's terribly difficult to understand how such a culture could treat a woman in such a way. Understanding Islam is difficult enough, and this just doesn't help one bit.

Another misogynistic law to keep the females under the thumb.blues

I have a few minutes ago in the news on tv an unbelievable report.
In Saudi Arabia is a woman, who was raped from 7 guys, condemned from a court to 1/2 year jail and 200 stick impacts.
The reason: The woman was not married and as she get raped, she was sitting in a car from a friend, who wasn´t the her husband or her father or brother. It would be a crime, if a woman has contact with a man who isn´t her husband or her father.

I´m really speechless. What´s up there?
Read the book ''Not without my daughter'' and you will find the reasons and realize how lucky you are living in a free country...

It is not our place to question the ways and laws of other cultures. What seems barbaric to one could be commonplace for another.
Why must we always look down and expect them to look up in awe at us... At our perfectly harmonious culture... Where murder and rape don't exist, and crime is always dealt with fairly and justly.
What I find sick about this is the media's reason for presenting it. That reason being to enrage the viewer and thereby dehumanize a culture and its people.
I don't agree that its is ok to be raped and then punished for being raped, but I'm not an expert of the worldwide right and wrong... none of us are.

Fair comment, but when the law is evidently so unballanced as to be misogynistic, it leaves one wondering as to the justice element.

And no, we're not judging Islam, at least that wasn't the aim of my comment...it just makes it a little more difficult to comprehend.

Western justice? As flawed as they come my friend, but a rape victim is treated as a victim, not a criminal.wine

It leaves my wondering too. Its very wrong in my eyes... buy my eyes have only seen one condition (that this is wrong). Therefore, what I see means nothing and is completely different than what a person of a different culture sees.

I actually wasn't talking about Islam, and I can understand it is sometimes hard to comprehend.

For what we see, Western Justice looks pretty good to us. However, after seeing a lawyer run down a young child's new $6000 dog and sue the family for damages to her car. The victim is not always treated as the victim here either. Moreover, once a rape goes to trial in a western justice system the victim is further victimized by the process and defense (treating the victim a lot like a criminal).

Ok,

Saudi and Muslim dont go hand in hand

Saudi is a Country that makes its own laws . Muslim is a religion that is shared by many even in the USA, Germany, Canada, and elsewhere. Now having said that...I was married to a muslim for 8 years who NEVER belittled me, never mistreated me, and never once verbally or physically abused me.

We have people right here in the USA that beat their wives, Only here we call it "Domestic Violence" But if a Saudi does it then the whole religion is responsible? Women are gang raped here in the US, So should we blame the Christians, Catholics or what???

Although the US has "Its Rights" dont think for one moment that people dont do this here....Violence knows no religion, region or color.

There is a big difference - and other Middle Eastern countries completely are outraged by the Saudi way the same as we are !

The Chair of the UAE Businesswomen Council, Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, said:

“We in the Arab world have no longer wanted to see women standing on the margin of events. Women should work hand-in-hand with men to achieve progress and prosperity we all aspire for”.

Sheikha Fatima told the forum in her opening address that given the opportunity, women could “prove their efficiency and competency, unleash their skills and talents and make their presence felt in society by their positive contributions to national development”.

Women should strive to improve their economic independence by launching their own businesses, she continued, praising UAE leaders for their support of the empowerment of women.

The conference, organised by the council, will highlight the role of women in economic development, and aims to increase women’s awareness of, and ability to deal with challenges in the region.

so... I think the Saudi Kindom is a special only self serving outlaw country to international standards - where only the Rangs and Royal influences are making the difference... They give a very bad name to all the rest of the Arabic World - and have full support from the US -Governement to do so, but so does the US and many other countries on the Globe as well to international human right standards..

I'm a fraid that change will have to come from the women them selves. Change will not come from the out side world. Many women in Saudi Arabia cling to these way more than the men .
Female circumcision is carry out on the orders of the older women not the men

its unbelivable is'nt it !

can you imagine if they had their way the whole world would be a religous state ....and if you said anything against the religion they can legally kill you ...because they say " thats part of our religion also "

conversing

they are the people who decide who you can sleep with or can't sleep with ..who can rape who and can't rape who..and who should be executed for saying ' bad things about their religion'

the men can have as many wives as they want though>> by law

in england we say " they're having a bubblebath " ( meaning their having a laugh )!

good thread

rubbish ...you're talking complete rubbish !

don't try to compare barbaric practices to legal law in america and think that smooths the argument over !

if you run over someones dog ( regardless of how the dog cost ) and it was the dogs fault because it should have been on a lead by law and not caused the accident to damage someones car is no compasrisome to raping people and then punishing the victim because the had no legal right ( has far as their concerned ) in the first place because of stupid selfish laws that men of that country created for themselve so that they can have as many wives as they want and also legally go round raping people

It proves once again, that the United States cares very little for Human Rights, when oil is involved. If the Saudi's had no oil, we(the U.S.) would be very upset and would be punishing the country for Human Rights violationsfrustrated
