Do you think the younger ones, if they even know what a floppy is, wonder why we call them that? I mean, they did used to actually flop, once upon a time. Hell, they even folded.

LOL, I still remember the old green screen computers. A company I worked for was cheap. They had all these really old computers for basic word processing. Depending on what desk you had, it was with green, yellow, or orange lettering. Even had the old 5 1/4 floppy drives in them, not that we saved anything on them, everything went to the printer right away. Talk about cheap skates!!

I have just bought a new computer with the vista program. I have problems with it frezzing when playing games like Sims 2. Does anyone else have problems with vista.
How do you have your Microsoft for Vista Update set?

If you have it set for automatic, chances are you were sent a patch that had errors in it. This is VERY common with Microsoft.

Remember '92 (I think it was).. I would suggest that you set it to allow only yourself to choose which updates to download. You will be able to view yourself which patches are available (they send them randomly), but nothing makes it past you without your approval.

If it were me (I bought a new laptop in February w/ Vista), I wouldn't allow any of them to downlaod. As with XP when it first came out, they had the same problems then..but sent out a package deal about 8 months or so later with correct, error free updates.

They will do the same for Vista soon, I'm sure.

I haven't had problems with playing any games, but I have issues with most messenger programs like Yahoo (thats the worst). It freezes up and doesn't send messages through either way (then I'll get like 6 in a row when it unfreezes).

I HATE WINDOWS VISTA!!! I want my XP back!!!!!
What is your upload/ download speed, DAngel?

Could have a big affect on it. If you run less than say 50kbs (speed at which your downloads transfer), you may encounter issues with messenger services, webcams, etc.

I just downloaded a new hidden objects game from big fish and the game has frozen every time I tried to play it so I just unintalled it. This is a new computer so the card should be up to date right.
Right..I think you are having a problem I had.

I uninstalled all of the downloads I thought were suspicious. askwoody.com should be able to help a little on this subject as he/they keep track and post bugged updates from Microsoft.

The guy behind the brains has it in for Bill Gates. Always has..so he says

Have you tried playing Sims2 in a window, instead of fullscreen?
I had the smae problem with Sims2 with XP, but after I changed it to a window,
I've had no probs with it...

Vista was made for high end computers only. Dual core processors, 4gig processors lots of ram. If you dont have something like this, then you do need to upgrade your new pc's or go back to xp. Yes they will have fixes. A service pack will be out soon but, most people will still have problems.sigh

I'm running Vista on my laptop and have had no problems with it crashing, freezing or not being able to IM but have seen many many many reports of the poor quality of Vista i'm sure they are true.

What I have found annoying is driver/program compatability. I suppose it's partly MS fault for making an OS that has compatibility problems and partly software manufactures fault for not keeping up to date with their drivers etc. I make music or surf the web on my Vista laptop rather than play games (use PS3 for that) and find Vista fast(ish) and easy to use. I do like the little touches like the "switch between windows" function that minimises multipule screens into a miniture flipbook thingy centre screen so ou can scroll through and pop-up the window you want but this could also just be described as style over content (which is an addage I hope cannot be used on myselfhead banger )

This said I have been looking into the virtues of Linux OS but am reluctant to change as I'm (a) rubbish at backing-up my old data and don't wanna lose anythng in a switch over, and(b) worried that my music programs won't be compatable on a Linux OS.

anyway enough waffle from me, I'm not comp' tech savvy enough to ramble on and make comparisons I just kinda like Vista.
