I think it is there Riya, just underlies other stuff. In the end people like a partner they feel comfortable with. That comfort usually comes from shared values. wave

imo
i need someone who can sit and hold a conversation that isn't just based on sex or the football game last night or American Idol...........i like a good debate(note i said debate not argument)
i don't like someone who thinks they know everything and forces their opinion down my throat

in general you must share a some of the same attributes as in your outlook, your interests otherwise you would never spend time together. but i don't think you have to agree on every little thing to have a successful relationship. i think the differences are what keep you attracted and coming back for more.....it adds a little spice to things. he does his thing........she does her thing......then you come back and compare notes, discuss etc(and no i'm not talking about sex for your pervs out there lol

remember JMHO and you're entitled to think i'm full of sh**

Great thread Riya!

Intelectual compatibilty is important to me. I want a partner who can stimulate my mind. Someone who is knowledgable on current events, history and has more on her mind than which pair of shoes to buy. She should be able to hold her own in a debate about any issue weather it be social, economic, political etc. I don't want her to agree with me all of the time, why date myself? I would like her to have the same stance on some issues but not all, to me some differences are good in any relationship.

Hiya Riya...excellent thread wave

For me it is essential to be on a similar level intellectually with someone, in order to consider a meaningful relationship with them, it is so refreshing... and enriching to a relationship to be able to share beliefs, views and ideas... I thoroughly enjoy learning from others view points.. part of why I became a member of the forums.. people.. such as urself, ray, al and detente (to name but a few) will never bore me because u all have such vibrant and fertile minds.... wine

Riya to me it means being able to have a meaningful conversation with someone. Not talking about sex or sport but things that effect us like politics and also scientific and philosophical views. I don't know everything and would be good to learn new things from them. Its also good to have some differences as we can then have debates and discussions putting across our point of views. Some interests like maybe music would be nice.

I'm thinking we all have some measure of intellect, some level of knowledge in the intellectual arena, which leads me to beleive if you base your search solely on an intellectual counterpart, not only do you cut of your nose to spite your face but you also lose contact with other areas of life, most notably body and spiritual compatibility.

I would rather find a dullard with an open mind than an intellectual with a closed mind. So for me the state of mindedness (open or closed) exceeds the intellectual basis of your question. If you are truely an intellect, you KNOW this.

So its not so much same outlook, same views; but, a congruence of openness to see more than just our own views.

wave Hiya Al

I agree with u... open mindedness is essential.. there are a number of different types of intellect.. I get on better with people who are more empirical and openminded in their outlook... knowledge is a pursuit.. a journey... those who 'know it all' have concluded that journey..

I hope that I don't appear arrogant in any way saying what I have said, but to be completely 100% honest.. I have gone out with a number of men, for a whole variety of reasons laugh and I have had a variety of friendships.. I have to say, and this is through experience.. the relationships and friendships that have stood the test of time (for me at least) have been ones where we had plenty to talk about, similar minds and outlooks.. there are other equally important things also.. just confining myself to the OP

hug
