The government does owe me something, I mean, that's why I pay taxes, right? I don't mind paying taxes, as long as I get something in return. Roads and stuff like that. I'd go ahead and add health care to the list of things that I wouldn't mind my taxes going to. We can spend billions of dollars in Iraq, a bridge to nowhere, crazy amounts of earmarks and pork. Why not cut the crap and spend the money on something that would actually benefit the people that pay taxes??

That said, I'm not a huge fan of Obama. I mean, he's better than any of the republicans running this year, but he doesn't seem to have a ton of substance. He seems a little bit of a media creation. I was hoping Bill Richardson would do a little better, but he's not getting much attention.

I agree w/your first paragraph.... w/the exception of health care. If you want to see a real mess, wait until the bureaucracy tells you what doctor to see and when you can see them. Hillary's 92 plan would have prohibited you from seeing your family doctor. When you couple national health care with Medicaid/Medicare and Social Security...all of which are ready to "tank"... we'll be screwed.

This society is becoming way too "needy"...

Government that governs least governs best....

There were problems with the Hillary-care plan, no doubt about it. I think both sides should be able to compromise on health care. People that need it, should have it, adn those of us who DO have health care should be able to keep our doctors and plans, if we want them. Actually, my private health care plan sucks, so I'd probably go with the government one!rolling on the floor laughing

I just have trouble thinking of health care as anything but a need. grin

One can make an arguement that anything is a "need".

Wouldn't it be better to guarantee everyone:

Free housing, free food, free heat, free electricity, free transportation, free child care,~~~~ Those would come before health care? dunno

No. If you do not have your health, you cannot obtain any of those things. If a person is healthy, they can work to afford those things.

And you CAN make an argument that anything can be considered a "need", but we're just talking about health care, right? grin

Need constitutes as something essential to life. If you have a broken leg I don't think you will worry about lights or child care.

Actually, we were talking about Osama.

But I think if a person's freezing to death w/o shelter or starving to death without food... getting a free penicillin shot isn't worth much. dunno
