You know what ... debate ...

here's something that will smack you right upside the head, its just facts, not me doing it ok uh oh!

hehe
I know you wouldn't get angry .. anyway .. the part of our humane human brain that controls the love response also controls hate response. I dont know the name of this cerebelum masterpiece but sciantifically I've been told its true so .. who am I to argue.

The compassion/love you seek in tandem with learning, cannot therefore exist without accepting the possibility of its counterpart 'hate'.
I know people 'want' for the most part to learn through compassion and indeed it seems far more acceptable to some hopefully most or we're doomed, but even doom has its own pheonix.

To others though, being drawn to debate through hate also tandems to create a learning.

it must be noted imperically; the object or the person expected to learn is not always the one with compassion nor the one with hate, but indeed learning does happen through both emotions.

cheers

The very reason i seemed to agree with Ray's methodology. To provoke to incite a detestful emotion .. so as to draw attention and nurture curiosity for the desired effect.

But, personally , i find it more acceptable to approach in a level headed manner with compassion ( subtle remarks or jeers are acceptable to a limit ) as it reaches out and is acceptable to more people.

Unless you see those of the higher intellect blending in emotions with forms of mental stimulation, I can see it happening. Otherwise, the norm has a very difficult time reflecting on the differences.

What I do find fascinating is that, those same elements that mentioned in regards to love and compassion, is what triggers off the fire and urge to emotionally and mentally seek intellectualism in the first place.

Nice Thread

Thanks

I dont understand
For example, some decided to be a doctors because they have a passion for making people feel better. So, it’s possible that, the desire to feel that passion is the cause of why they decided to seek that knowledge in the first place.

If someone doesn’t know the difference? Well, you do have those that decide to be doctors simply for the paycheck or status quo?

Learning for learnings sake is pointless, empty and vain.

It can be an ego trip.

We NEED to temper any intellectual leanings we may have with a healthy appreciation for our fellow man.

Without love, we are nothing!
With learning comes knowledge, with knowledge comes understanding, with understanding comes tolerance, with tolerance and time comes a healthy appreciation for our fellow man. Learning new things broadens your horizons which is never a bad thing imho.

Learning for LEARNINGS SAKE.

Also, understanding does not necessarily follow when knowledge is gained. The link between the two is often fractured.

Hence the world as we know have it.

But in ideal settings, you would have a point.wine

There's been several heavy threads recently dealing with quite involved, and somewhat controversial topics. Many words have been written and very deep, intellectually vibrant concepts and views put forth.

It got me thinking.

I strongly believe that it is vital to temper intellectual focus with love and compassion, or else it simply becomes a fruitless exercise in cold, dispassionate, self absorbtion.

Empty and vain.

Why do I see it this way?

Look around at the world...there's plenty of knowledge...lots of 'great' minds at work, but where is the compassion and love?

We need intellectually capable minds, we need to keep on learning about 'why' and 'how' and 'if'. But all this is pointless without some sort of positive fellow feeling.

Indeed it could be said that love and compassion might be the lubricant to intellectualisms engine.

Just had to spew this out...be well people!
Fabulous. Interesting. Very well articulated. tip hat

Still, I read it three times, and could not find anything about "boobies!" grin

Good thread detente.

I agree intellectualism is important, much better to train our children to rationalise and think critically than some of the practical skills they are taught today which become outdated very quickly.

Anti-intellectualism is a dangerous thing, look back through history and you will see just how much persecution has been suffered under the various regimes who feared these people. Governments don't really want us to think, it can be subversive!

I don't believe intellectuals are necessarily cold people either, great poets for example must have a lot of passion and emotion to write the way do, but there is a skill, I believe, in putting across intellectual views which do not turn off the reader or listener.

Intellectuals are not an elite group of people, yet many fear them because they believe they are.

Sadly it's preferable to worship dopey 'celebrities' these days.
