Karma...a spinoff of Riya's poll.

I have a couple of friends that seem to have nothing but bad luck in the Karma department. They are good people and do the right things, nice to everyone, and help people all the time without compensation. However, for all the good that they do, they never seem to have any come their way. They are bright cheery people, but all the bad things happening to them are taking its toll.

What could have caused this?

Could one minor bad thing they might have done in the past cause everything else to snowball into increasingly bad things happening to them?

I would love to hear everyone's view on this.professor

Personally, I do not believe in Karma. There are to many random factors in this life for it to be a justifiable reason for good and bad occurances.

As you say, these people you know try hard and yet suffer from bad 'karma'.

No...basically, and no offence intended here, but sh*t happens dude!wine

I do not agree with karma, but I understand why people do. I think we are responsible for our own lives regardless how we treat people and how they treat us.

Good things happen in their own time.... whether u believe in Karma or not.. being "good" as u refer.. does not I'm sure include an expectation of payback..(not that I am suggesting that this is what they do)... I for one am going to make a New Years resolution to put my faith in the Universe/God whoever and just let my life take its own natural course...

''bad' isn't always as bad as it seems, often makes one a better person... smile wave

when we think we have control that thought may be fulfilled
but the reins may be wrenched from our hands , no matter
whether we do "good" or "bad"

What is considered good today may be considered bad tomorrow.

What is commonly referred to as bad is often merely a tempering of the spirit in preparation of times ahead. Lessons may be learned through hard times and the battle most dearly won has more value than the one overcome without a fight. Character development comes from hard times as well as personal strength. It is all a matter of perspective. Darkness is cold and absolute but without it the light would not have its blessed warmth and comfort.

I agree to that, Det. However, it seems to happen to them more than most. All they really ask for is a balance of the two if it is at all possible.

hmm.. i am still no where close to a conclusion on the God thread .. so Karma is my meanwhile fancy laugh

On a serious note my experience in life so far makes me not to ask for anything but do what i can if am asked of. Not to forget , as far as possible i TRY not to get in to the " i did this for you " mode. So Be good and good happens to you. This is my version of Karma.

But if you intend to be cruel, well.. even nature is taking its course and toll on the ever demanding human species so we are but mortal.

You plant a seed of hate or deceit.. unfortunately the fruits are eaten by too many ( unfortunate victims? ) . Maybe this is what Karma is.

Somewhere in that mix good judgement has to come into play, I do believe. People can be wonderful human beings with the best intentions, but rational decision-making is required. Just being "good" in itself doesn't guarantee a good outcome.

My thoughts on this are along the same lines.. I believe life is a test. Therefore, we are sent these trials and tribulations (which some people call "bad things")

It's the way in which we deal and also the things we learn from these experiences that make us stronger in the long run.

Helping us to appreciate the light at the end of the tunnel, when we finally have it in our sights cool

To be honest.. I use the word Karma.. when it suits me.. laugh

When bad things happento me.. I like to think of them as *Life lessons*... things I need to experience learn from.

I never see them as *Bad Karma* for me... angel

So I use it when it suits me.

For what it is worth, I am not much on Karma either.

Sometime bad things happen to good people. Simply because they
are close to what was bad that was happening. Christ talked about it one time. He ask a group of listeners which of the 16 people that had been killed when a wall collapsed, was the sinner that caused it to fall. None could give an answer to his question. His point was they were all good people, caught in a bad accident and none there were to blame. While maybe today, we might closely look at the contractor or designer of the wall.

On the other hand, I do think that the friends you associate with can get you into a lot of trouble and bring a lot of bad things your way.
E.G. the Micheal Vick and his buddies kind of thing. Not saying this about your buddies or your self, Solitaire. Just the way to world is wired today.

Tell your buddies to hang there. God knows thier hearts...knows what they have been through and are going through. Sometime bad things are like that wall, you just don't know why it falls or comes to you. Tell they keep looking for spiritual break thrus in thier lives. You can have those in the worst of situations. Tell them that cheery attitude they have is worth more than all tea that is in China. It really is. They sound like good buds, Solitaire...you are lucky to have them. JMO
