We can ease the pain until we come up with an alternative. Maybe then the market forces will not dictate that we have to protect such a volital source and we as a nation can afford more reasonable competition. Someone or something has to give and it can't always be me at the pump.
It can and will be you at the pump until a viable alternative is created. laugh

so make as much noise about that as the war and then we can meet in the middle. As long as we only scream about the method and not equally about the solution then it does me no good to join the choir. I will support the only answer until we agree on the best answer.sigh

Maintain whatever stability we can for as long as we can until people scream louder for an alternative energy supply than they do for an end to stability. Look at ted kennedy and Joe kennedy jr of all people personally stopped the windmill project off of their own little private beach in massachusets. Joe jr can scream all he wants about everyone else sacraficing but he won't allow windmills 6 miles out of his view? Al gore wants to sell carbon credits and he is in line to be the worlds largeast trader in the carbon bonds while he flies around on a private jet. the hypocrasy is every where and there must be balance. If U wont help balance and want to sing with the choir rather than PROVIDE a solution then I must take an opposing view and again provide that ever important balance and scream the other waythumbs up

I bet if we installed 100k well placed windmills, 10k well placed oil wells, 25 well placed oil refineries, 20 well placeed nuclear power plants 5 well placed hydro power projects we could eliminate the importance of the middle east all together to america. But will anybody scream for that? I think not.scold

Think of the jobs we would create. Think of it like FDR in the 30's and the depression when they built americas first real hwys. Why can't we scream for that as an alternative instead of screaming the way we do at each other? Is it not as fun or exciting to scream for a solution?confused

Written by a housewife from New Jersey and sounds like it! This is one ticked off lady.

"Are we fighting a war on terror or aren't we? Was it or was it not started by Islamic people who brought it to our shores on September 11, 2001?

Were people from all over the world, mostly Americans, not brutally murdered that day, in downtown Manhattan , across the Potomac from our nation's capitol and in a field in Pennsylvania ?

Did nearly three thousand men, women and children die a horrible, burning or crushing death that day, or didn't they?

And I'm supposed to care that a copy of the Koran was "desecrated" when an overworked American soldier kicked it or got it wet?...Well, I don't. I don't care at all.

I'll start caring when Osama bin Laden turns himself in and repents for incinerating all those innocent people on 9/11.

I'll care about the Koran when the fanatics in the Middle East start caring about the Holy Bible, the mere possession of which is a crime in Saudi Arabia .

I'll care when these thugs tell the world they are sorry for hacking off Nick Berg's head while Berg screamed through his gurgling slashed throat.

I'll care when the cowardly so-called "insurgents" in Iraq come out and fight like men instead of disrespecting their own religion by hiding in mosques.

I'll care when the mindless zealots who blow themselves up in search of nirvana care about the innocent children within range of their suicide bombs.

I'll care when the American media stops pretending that their First Amendment liberties are somehow derived from international law instead of the United States Constitution's Bill of Rights.

In the meantime, when I hear a story about a brave marine roughing up an Iraqi terrorist to obtain information, know this: I don't care.

When I see a fuzzy photo of a pile of naked Iraqi prisoners who have been humiliated in what amounts to a college-hazing incident, rest assured: I don't care.

When I see a wounded terrorist get shot in the head when he is told not to move because he might be booby-trapped, you can take it to the bank: I don't care.

When I hear that a prisoner, who was issued a Koran and a prayer mat, and fed "special" food that is paid for by my tax dollars, is complaining that his holy book is being "mishandled," you can absolutely believe in your heart of hearts: I don't care.

And oh, by the way, I've noticed that sometimes it's spelled "Koran" and other times "Quran." Well, Jimmy Crack Corn and-you guessed it- I don't care !!

If you agree with this viewpoint, pass this on to all your E-mail friends. Sooner or later, it'll get to the people responsible for this ridiculous behavior!

If you don't agree, then by all means hit the delete button. Should you choose the latter, then please don't complain when more atrocities committed by radical Muslims happen here in our great Country! And may I add:

"Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference in the world. But, the Marines don't have that problem." -- Ronald Reagan

I have another quote that I would like to add AND.......I hope you forward all this.

"If we ever forget that we're One Nation Under God, then we will be a nation gone under." Also by.. Ronald Reagan

One last thought for the day:

In case we find ourselves starting to believe all the Anti-American sentiment and negativity, we should remember England 's Prime Minister Tony Blair's words during a recent interview. When asked by one of his Parliament members why he believes so much in America , he said: "A simple way to take measure of a country is to look at how many want in... And how many want out."

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you:
1. Jesus Christ
2. The American G. I.

One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

YOU MIGHT WANT TO PASS THIS ON, AS MANY SEEM TO FORGET BOTH OF THEM.
AMEN!

Just to clarify - I am in no way anti-American or xenophobic.

I Just hate the way people in power, whichever president, minister or businessman, simply solve problems with money or mouse clicks over guided missile launches.

Had I the money to do it, I'd rebuild the twin towers exactly how they were and throw two boeings through them, just to prove the impossibility of the tower collapsement being due to a plane crash.

American experts themselves know that the twin towers were designed to withstand multiple plane crashes.

I therefore apologise for any Americans getting offended with my previous post. There are Bright and Wise people in USA that know the truths behind 9/11 but cannot talk as they have their own life to safeguard.

Let's just all make sure nothing similar repeats itself. We all have our families, we are all carrying the cost incurrance not only of fuel surcharges since 9/11, but now even an invisible but tangible surcharge on our daily bread and cereal products due to the need for reverting to new fuels other than black gold.

Have A Happy New Year.

Thank God people like U with thinking processes like Urs do not stop the world from going 'round. It is thoughts like Ur's that prevent the world from finding concensus and solving the problems facing us today. Blame, blame, blame, everything is a conspiracy involving the people in power. Ur knowledge of engineering sounds exceptional and I guess I should just throw all of my engineering expieirience out and trust U because "American experts themselves know..." I bet U own every film ever made by Michael Moore. Quite a library. The only person U need to apologize to is Ur mother for becoming the @#$%% U are.thumbs down

Stupid is as Stupid thinks. If I were Ur child I would tell everyone I was an orphan.D'oh!

I thank each and everyone of you for your comments....I posted this letter because I felt there were SOME valid points...I am very happy that we were very respectful of one anothers opinions here...

I am glad that this can be part of an open discussion...that was the point of the thread...

Ummmmm, what was that you were saying about this being "very respectful".

D'oh!

I am afraid we have disgressed.. Too bad, it was an interesting thread with some pretty good points of view.

I was discussing the Regan quote, about us being a "Nation under god". You mentioned the unalienable rights, that's how we got on the "rights" thing.

I know you're not saying that atheists don't have rights, I was arguing the point of where our rights come from.

We did get off topic!!!
Hard for me to stomach reading the whole thread... I do know that nothing justified what happened on 9/11 and I don't have answers for the war in Iraq. I do know that the hatred blamed at the U.S. is not my fault or my problem and the Islamic zealots are true sick people.

but... KEV... check it out... there is a thing called the plege of allegiance to the flag of the United States of America.... ONE NATION, UNDER GOD, WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL... Twisting crap does not make one sound very intelligent....best to know the source...should have learned that by the time you were in the 2nd Grade... Oh my bad, do they not allow the pledge of allegiance anymore?

But it is your problem.
Maybe if U.S. foreign policy changed then these people would not wake up some morning
and instead of going about their business decided to hate your country.
Does liberty and justice for all only apply if you are an american.

GIVE ME A BREAK! I guess you believe that Elvis is till alive? That's the most insidious thing I've heard. Tho' the twin towers could withstand plane crashes it was plainly evident that they withstood the crashes...were you blind? Did you not see the videos? The planes were fully loaded with fuel, it was the heat from the fire which weakened the structure and caused them to collapse... wow... just another out to bash Americans...get a grip and get real....

BTW... I would not doubt that the whole impetus for the 9/11 attack was for the oil barrons of the middle east to increase their wealth...surely the American's who invested in oil as well as all people all over the world who invested in oil have had a huge windfall profit from the 9/11 attack.

BamaBob,

The Under God portion of the pledge didn't happen until the 50s. It was written in after the fact. I can't recall the dates but I seem to recall that it was put in as a unification answer to the communist threat after WWII.

I believe that lack of understanding as well as some of the individul state constitution's verbage which do specifically mention God have led people to the belief America is One Nation Under God.

You can look at some of the discussions documented during the drafting/creation of the Constitution and will see it was discussed but never written in.

I believe America was founded on the ideal of religeous freedom (among many other freedoms) The thought of America being created as one nation under God which implies favor towards the Jewish, Christian and other religeons would be contrary to this very basic and clearly stated freedom of religeon.

I'm a Christian too (Not a very good one but one nonetheless). Even so, that will never change what is and is not contained in the constitution.
