Following the news this week from Kenya, I cannot see how tribal culture can co-exist peacefully in the 21st century.

It seems to me that when today we compare tribes of today to tribes of the 1880s, we are mixing apples and oranges. One has to expect that over several 100s of years of contact with western society, a tribe today would acquire western ways and means. It no longer is that same tribe of a 100s yeara ago.

Only where you have an very isolate tribe of say deep in Borneo, can you expect that westernization not to have happened. What you are really saying is the actions and decisions of 100s of years need to be reversed or altered to bring these tribes back to ther place of orgin, to their pristine ideal life style shown in Dancing with the Wolves.
To right the wrongs of westernization. No way Hose', is that going to happen. Wish them to lose modern medicines and medical care? Wish them to lose cars and modern transportation? Give them back major cities and towns to give thier homelands back?

This is a struggle of cultures...west and east...in a some senses. Of new vs old. Of tribe vs organized society. But it is a very real struggle even today.

Be honest here if you found your heritage traced back to the Sumerian empire would you learn that language just because it was your where your family originally came from? People blend so they can work together, like it or not it’s the only way things work. This includes using a common tongue.
