Is it a cruel murder by the state or a just punishment?

Can it be a deterrent to crime?

Could be the answer to all three questions is yes.

Yes it is murder by the State

Sometimes it may be "just".....but still barbarism

Deterrent....who knows....I doubt it.

I think it is murder by state.

In the most case aren't 100% secure that the person was guilty.
And I think it is a harder penalty to sit alone in a little cell until you die as to get killed and all end with this.

State sanctioned murder. If it was meant as a deterrent, it's not working.

I for one believe that there are certian crimes that deserve the death penalty....I am studying in the law field and am seeing the processes of what it takes to actually be able to ask a jury to concider the death penalty...at least in the State of Illinois...the standards are hard to prove...

the system is not perfect, just like nothing in this world is perfect. These decisions are made by human beings, who again, are not perfect.

the one thing that needs to be reminded I think....almost every person that has been convicted and sentanced to death....has been done so by a jury of their peers....I am not saying this is the best way to handle things....but, all 12 of those ppl had to come to the same conclusion in whatever means they did for the sentance to be allowed....

I mean no offense to anyone...this is just my opinion....it only really matters to me...grin

see, this is where ppl get into trouble...everything has to be black or white...

think about this for a secong....there is a man/woman that has just killed someone, they leave the scene and get rid of most of the evidence against them.

now, the person that they have just killed, is someone that is known to them and maybe they have been friends with....

at trial, it the person that commited the murder going to come out and say without a doubt "YES, I KILLED THEM" ???

things are not like they are in the movies...there are devious and dangerous ppl in this world...and they will stop at nothing to do whatever they think they can get away with....look at the examples...Ted Bundy, Jeffery Dahmer and the likes of them...would you want them living anywhere near you???

just something to think about

Absolutely. Here is where the death penalty should be implemented without argument. If one is convicted of a crime or crimes against humanity of the most heinous, inhuman kind that merit a term or terms of imprisonment well beyond the span of human life, they should be executed: forfeiture of life.

And it is in NO WAY inhuman or barbaric to lie down on a bed and be put to sleep. Almost all of us will most certainly die a far more painful death!!!

The death penalty MUST be reinstated. It is the strongest deterrent of the most destructive, detrimental and terrible human behavior there is.

It is NOT a punishment, it is a forfeiture of life. It is not murder, it is removing someone from their earthly concerns - and people like them from ours!!!

There are people sitting in prison serving over 600 year sentences today in the most pathetic dilemma of law and enforcement in history!

Of ‘mercy’ to the detriment of mankind. We are becoming like deers who have sympathy for the crocodiles who eat our own cubs!!!

Rest assured that I for one would drive the plunger of the syringe into their inhuman arms with as much pressure and speed as possible, so they might feel a little ‘tweak’ of pain before they drift off into the bliss of nothing.

DO ppl really think that ANY crime can carry the death penalty?????

in your words "Absolutely. Here is where the death penalty should be implemented without argument. If one is convicted of a crime or crimes against humanity of the most heinous, inhuman kind that merit a term or terms of imprisonment well beyond the span of human life, they should be executed: forfeiture of life."

implying that the death penalty is used on a whim by the states....

as I said in my first post....there are certian circumstances that must be met before the state can request the death penalty in ANY case...if the criteria is not met....then the death penalty is not even allowed to be concidered

Am firmly against the Death Penalty.. read Helen Prejean Death of Innocents.. even if who she refers to represent a small minority of people who face death row.. the price is far too high...imagine being locked up in your room/apartment/house (with all the amenities) for 6 months and not being allowed to go outside the door.. multiply that by 80 and picture having to do it in a grey stone building with basic facilities.. prison is punishment enough.. and at least if the person does turn out to be wrongly convicted they can walk out alive

The death penalty is not a deterrent.. as long sentences aren't a detterent to Drug Lords... people who do heinous acts that you speak of are either not right in the head or fanatics!!.. the Death Penalty existed in almost all Criminal Law Jurisdictions in the world at one time or another.. it never made a difference, that is why in the last number of decades, most jurisdictions have abolished it..

the people that are wrongly convicted, especially in this day and age are minimal.

dunno ever hear of collateral damage? The government does it all the time.

I think that they should not stay on death row for a long period of time, through trickery of laws wording. They should be faced to a firing squad-problem solved.

This post may make some queasy and some upset, but have your family, or a child killed by these sociapathic creatures, and your views may change.

In Michigan, we had a man actually kill his wife, take her body to the factory that his father owned, hacked up her body in small pieces using the equipment. He got second degree murder for that. He was having an affair with the au pair, which booked to Germany the night before that happened. That man will be available for parole in his lifetime.
Tell her family and her children that is a fair thing to do to him.

We do not have the death penalty in Michigan.

I agree, If i had lost someone i loved executing the murderer would not bring them back. I would want them to live a lonely isolated existence, deprived of their liberty.

and it doesn't appear to have worked as a deterant
