do you think some people are just "born bad"?

or do you think it is in how they are raised?

I think that some forms of psychopathy are there from birth.

Makes me think of a quote "There are no bad dogs, just bad dog owners..." But then again the human mind is so much more complicated so there are distinct problems associated with this.

Yes, I defininitely think some are born evil. They also stay evil throughout their lives, leopards don't change their spots.

On the other hand there are ones of this world who are real gems and continue to sparkle throughout their lives angel

My answer is: Yes.

Two children brought up in the same home with lots of love can become two very different people. But if a child isn't raised well, I would expect the odds of a happy outcome drop drastically.

Hmmm... I have had to have a lot to do with this the last few years..

I sure it's 50/50 50% nature 50% nurture.

hey there lass

i recently reunited with my daughter who was adopted at birth. she's a carbon copy of me, raised in a conservative home, she's a liberal. her basic habits and attitudes are exactly like mine. ie: she doesn't care about clothes, bites her nails, loves animals, bad housekeeper/ passionate cook, identical handwriting. i could go on and on

so yes i believe you carry on many as yet unidentified genetic characterisitics why not homicidal tendencies.
suicide runs in families why not homicide.

Sounds like a psychology course question. I believe in the theory that we are born with a clean slate...so its how you are raised, your peers and your culture that have an influence on how you turn out...

That is a very interesting perspective and I am sure you may see the opposite as well; someone who is in a family but not really a part of it.

In general, psychopaths aren't the product of broken homes or the casualties of a materialistic society. Rather they come from all walks of life and there is little evidence that their upbringing affects them. Elements of a psychopath's personality first become evident at a very early age, due to biological or genetic factors. Explains Michael Seto, a psychologist at the Centre for Addiction and Mental health in Toronto, by the time that a person hits their late teens, the disorder is almost certainly permanent. Although many clinicians use the terms psychopath and sociopath interchangeably, writes psychopath expert Robert Hare on his book 'Without Conscience', a sociopath's criminal behavior is shaped by social forces and is the result of a dysfunctional environment.

While I think nurture has a huge effect there are those who are born missing something...

I believe it's about 90% nuture, 10% nature.
I have nothing to back that up.
It's an opinion.

They also have proven that a psychopaths brain is different than those of people who aren't pshychopaths...That probably answers the question of how 2 people can grow up identically and one is a pshychopath and the other isn't...

thumbs up
