good luck and hang in there, its really hard. I quit 17 years ago after smoking for 15 years and it was the hardest. I had to get help and take the patch.. worked like a charm.

Yes, the patch helped me to stop also, and I was a 40-60 a day smoker, and give up fairly easly on those, kept them on all night, and walked around in a nicotine haze until lunch time at least.

Hang in there Spanky. I start on the 8th (w/the Chantix) and hope to be off ciggies on the 15th. I've already bought some of those plastic stir sticks to keep my fingers occupied. (something to "fiddle" with)
I think breaking the old habits will be the hardest. Like going outside in 20 degree weather at work to have a ciggie...and sitting at the computer lighting one up after another, even if I don't really smoke them. We're certainly creatures of habit.

Good luck to ALL of you...I'm not far behind.
Hey, Indy...If Chantix effects you like it did me, when I was on it, I couldn't smoke after the 3rd day. Once it started being in my system, though my head told me I wanted a cigarette, the taste and smell of one was downright horrible so I'd light one up just to end up putting it back out. So hopefully, you'll be done before the 15th!

Just a couple more weeks until I start quitting again. I'm looking forward to it. Back on Chantix.

Okay I have quit smoking

Irritable - yes
emotional time bomb - yes
grouchy - yeppers

Okay where is everybody that said they were quitting???? Where is the support group hello?

Ohhhhh, I do feel so much better.......thanks for listening
I missed the unofficial announcement, but I'm still game to offer some support, Fishing.

Think of the favor you're doing your body. Smoking takes a toll on everything physically, including (for most people) your looks. Wouldn't it be nice to hold onto your health - not to mention that pretty face of yours - for as long as possible. Methinks yes.

Hang in there, girl. comfort hug

ermm .. if i may suggest .. this kind of drastic cut down on a long term addiction to smoke can have annoying withdrawals of nicotine.

Maybe one should cut down slowly and then eventually stop.

Suddenly stopping will be difficult to adhere to.

Which isn't to say start back up and then try again....wink

Look at your post.

Almost everything you have written here reinforces how difficult quitting is.

If you keep telling yourself, and others that it is hard. It will stay that way. How can it be anything else?

You have to make it something else. Step one is recognizing those feelings for what they are. You've done that, and expressed it openly more than once.

Step two...after you have recognized the feelings, distance yourself from them. Deliberately replace them with something else. I've shared what has worked for me. You have to come up with something that works for you.

Tell us why you want to quit smoking...we will help you find another place to direct your focus.

For me it was for my health, and even more for my daughter's health. She was recently diagnosed with asthma.

What's your story?
This man's an effin' genius! wtg!applause applause head banger thumbs up cheers

Good morning Brave woman!!!!

You have taken the first step.

As an intelligent person you know that it takes a bit of time....if it was easy then everyone would have done it.

It is worth it.

And each day that passes makes you less of a smoker and more a non-smoker.

You will feel a bit better soon when you stop associating good things with your smoking and bad things as a consequence of non-smoking......that is the addiction talking.

Your skin will look better, so will your hair...you will feel better and (let's be honest) smell better. For the lucky kissees....you will taste a lot better.

It is all up from here.

Keep strong!!!!! I hope that helps a little

Now that's some advice that motivates like a good kick in the rear! thumbs up thumbs up head banger

I see what you're saying, but the scare tactics unfortunately don't always work. I know a few people that have died from smoking related illnesses. It's unbelievable how powerful the addiction can be when you've seen the effects of it firsthand and still continue to smoke.
I have cut down to about half of what I was smoking a month ago and sooner or later, I'll stop altogether.applause

He's right, it's all about the habit.

Your smoking is often behaviors associated with other actions. If you got used to taking a smoke break after lunch each day, or after an argument with someone, or when you walk the dog, etc. then you will have a harder time quitting every time you do one of those things.

You need to develop a new habit. Replace your urge to smoke with something else. Indy's using plastic straws, and my brother although he did not smoke (he bit his nails, it was bad) stopped by flipping a quarter between his fingers.

This stuff works. Experiment and see what causes you to lose or forget about the urge. If you're in good enough shape, try to exercise when you feel you need a smoke. I heard that works for some people; I'm not sure about it though.

Good Luck Indy! thumbs up applause
