Finally, a cool thread!laugh

Love so many...prefer 'em melodic and fluid personally...not too keen on sloppy but soulfull playing.

With this in mind, I love to listen to Pete Frampton...some stunning jazzy runs and oodles of melodic playing.

Don Felder...a very good player also...I just like his style.

Steve Hackett from Genesis...a supremely gifted player...inventive and trand setting to a degree.

Don Roeser from Blue Oyster Cult...damn he's good. The album 'On Your Feet Or On Your Knee's' is a brilliant listen, and a good example of how good he was.

Clapton? Yup...sh*t hot!

Mark Knopfler...just superb...he's got it all...can do it all. just listen to 'Sultans Of Swing'. He's a dude.

Great thread!wine

Hasn't reached the stardom of the people you list but

John Mayer (wrote Daughters, Waitin On the World To Change)

has the mind of a classic artist with more talent for his age.

I don't know who did it...but they guy who did Stairway to heaven has a vote... there are so many really good pickers that IMO there is no best one....depends on the mood and what kind of music one feels like listening to. I think Willie Nelson is fantastic but I know some who said that Roy Clark was the best.... I do a really good job on some things I do that no one else can do...but I only know a few riffs and a few songs..but I'm good at what I do know.

A lot have been left out from early Rock % Roll, the Blues players; many of whom were highly influencial in inspiring or teaching quite a few in your list besides B.B. King; Bo Didley, Duane Eddy, Link Wray,John Lee Hooker,Jimmy Hendrix, Buddy Guy, Robert Cray, Mississippi John Hurt and so many more that shaped the best of right now...or so I think. %)

Also a few more overlooked, Les Paul, Charlie Christian, (I mean come on, Gibson named guitars after them!), Chet Atkins,
T-Bone Walker(where Hendrix picked up the playing guitar behind the headgrin ).

A couple more of my favs. Mahavishnu John McLaughlin and Larry Coryell
