The pope says: no condoms, pressuposing that monogamy is the unique reality.

Diseases, not wanting commitment (for the sake of wanting to sleep with anyone without feeling pressured or guilty- yeah, that's the only reason that one wants to avoid commitmentsticking out tongue ) demands condom usage...

With the westernisation of the world, where Islamic countries now endorse women in politics,

Do you think they will have to change all the principles to adjust to new realities the ones that will persist on religian will be held as abnormals?

During the mid 18th century, 1.9 % of England's wealth came from the slave trade. Did the church do anything about it ? We now and always have, lived in a dynamic world. Constant change for good or bad.

thank you dear!

I'm just thinking about those old ladies with the thin church "magazines", approaching everyone, so politely...their first question is: "do you like reading"? They seem so desperate, all of them have the same emotional approach(aparently); they look sweet, but they are equivalent to any begger whilst they are messengers of God! How wierd is that?

Hi Christina, sorry, had not kept up, is the German Pope taking the same line on condoms as Pope John Paul? I used to be Catholic, grew up in Catechism but John Paul's reasoning never held up in my mind to scrutiny.

I was always left with the uneasy feeling that condom use was never promoted because the Catholic Church wanted more people born into the Church. Especially in South America and other predominant Catholic areas.

Nothing I have ever read or studied indicated that condom use was not ok. In fact the Catholic Church's position on life is at the time the sperm enters the egg, not before. My parents were "good Catholics" had 6 children, but after that started using condoms.head banger

It's their crutch Chris...it's their way of dealing with the world as it is.

Some are more sincere than others also...the scriptures they believe in could have helped them a great deal.

Others simply pick and choose what they want to apply, hence the wars in the name of religion.

cheers

More and more profiles that I read and more and more people that I speak to.. cite 'spiritual but not religious' as their 'religion' per se.. which I welcome as an evolvement... it shows that people still feel a connection but need it to be more personal.. this is the way forward for me I reckon..

We have a way of evolving I think.. human kind in the direction of our natural equilibrium... it takes time and a lot of mistakes.. but I welcome open and free expression more than I welcome heartless dogmatism...

Great thread Chris... wine

perhaps the desperation conveyed by the old ladies is due to shortage of money on that little basket?laugh

Organized religion had always been a way of controlling the masses, when we evolve to the point of doing the right thing because it's the right thing and not because we're afraid of going to hell, i believe that religion will cease to matter.

Its really interesting....google it and watch part 1....they explain how all religions are a myth, and nothing more than an old way of keeping track of seasons.....I just watched it a few days ago....I'd only recomend watching it if you are open minded on religions. grin
