I know it's impossible to judge all movies against the same criteria. And I know you will be appalled that I left your favorite off this list, but I just thought this would be fun to look at. Let me know what you think.

This has been done several times although not with a poll. What I find most interesting is you put the 7 Samurai on your list. It even got a few votes. My faith is restored!

1959 was the greatest year in movie making history, however the Godfather saga(obviously not 1959) introduced us to the prospect of seeing the backstory, birth, coming of age, rise to power(cats and the cradle and the silver spoon.......),seduction by power, and finally insanity from a journey to the depths of hell(spiritually and mentally), without having to sit for 7hrs straight in a theatre. Thats right sequel to trilogy, the path to blockbuster and the ability to tell the whole story...

Can you say Starwars....Lord of the Rings......

Long live the Godfather!!!!cheers

In response to:
I choose Doctor Zhivago
Ha! Might have know ; Good story; in same vein I would have chosen the Russian version of War And Peace---all 8 1/2 hours! The Hollywood version was just too maudlin, especially with Henry Fonda!

I know it doesn't belong on any of the greatest lists, but my favorite movie of the past few years is "Crash".

This one was just different. A group of subplots crashing into each other in a serious way, with a great soundtrack, and an anti-prejudice message was a winning combination in my opinion.
