so i have been sick for about a month with what i thought was a cold..still working my ass off every day..coughing gets worseim getting chest pains.. still working every day.. boss tells me i should really go to the doctor, i say im alright its just a cold.. then last week i start coughing so hard im coughing up blood and getting nose bleeds a coming close to passing out.. on thursday i say screw it call the docs office to make an appointment and they tell me to go to urgent care.. so i go..turns out i have a respritory infection and they give me meds and tell me to not work for a few days. i have friday off due to way to much overtime so thats one day i can relaxe and recoup..monday i follow up with my doc and he says not to go back until wednesday gives me diff meds..i call my boss and she says just come back thursday try to get better.. wednesday night i end up going to emergency becuase im having chest pains and a hard time breathing..they run all kinds of test,xrays,and c scans and tell me i have pleurisy... give me diff meds and tell me rest for a few more days nothing can be done has to take care of itself but hurts like hell take the pain meds more often.. i call my boss and get no answer so i leave a messege telling them what happened and what the doc says if they have any questions call me.. so i dont hear from them until today and all she has to say is are you gonna come to work monday and you better have a doctors slip..

wtf,this is the same person that watched me cough up blood for a week and told me i should see a doctor.!!!

same person that nominated me for outstanding maintenance person of the year for the state of michigan.. and i won.. i put off going to the doctor because the other guy was on vaca and that would leave them without anyone..

now they are acting like ive committed some kind of warcrime or something..


sorry just had to rant!!!

jesus, Id be telling her where to go thats a bit harsh, probably a day of PMT ing. Stuff her make sure you get better no job is worth risking your health for.

Doug, been there. You're a cog in the wheel. You have no right to be sick, you have no right to compassion.....it's capitalism at it's finest.

Sounds like you've been to the doctor enough you should have plenty of notes to shove at her.

Gosh...... you have been through the mill, haven't you?? I find your boss's approach insensitive to say the least. From what I have heard with regard to employment and workplace practices in the US, it seems remarkably different to here in the UK. There is much to suggest we have better rights for employees than you do over there? We would be much better protected in such a situation.....

Can you not look up what the corporate policies are in cases such as this and find out where you stand?? You shouldn't have to take that!!

Unfortunately many employers pay lip service only to care of their employees and you have now experienced this.

Yeah they are allowed to work ya to death and want you to be happy doing it...Just don't get sick!!!!!!

Doug, sweetie, you can always use FMLA - Family and medical leave act. I did when my health was on it's way down. That is what it is there for, there is nothign your boss can do about it, it is to protect you and your job.I seriously suggest you check into it.

I had a boss that made my life a living hell when me health was going down. Company finally asked HIM to leave.

Some places of employment are screwed up royally, aren't they.

I've learned the hard way to get to a doctor earlier when it starts going into
my chest. Nothing good happens when it starts traveling down that way.

Experience can be the best teacher (if we pay attention to it).

Whatever I can do, now, to take care of myself, is my greatest prioity after many
years of trial and error.

Had been working for a company for 15 years with a very good record, then I got married....during my yearly review was asked to assure them I wouldnt be looking for maternity leave in the next 12 months....

That's outrageous!! Here in the UK..... that would most likely go to court and the employee is almost certain to win the case!!

Doug, been ther, done that. Really been on both ends of that one. We know Ur side but maybe U have an important enough job that someone above her noticed U missing. Maybe she is just covering her butt. Or maybe U are U are the biggest slacker in town and she was trying to show compassion and now feels the fool Just kidding doug, but maybe she has a reason beyond our paygrade

Best to just bring a note (detailed if poss) and calmly hand it in... I'm guessing from what you said, that you are a valuable member of your team... ur presence is more than likely missed and ur boss is really feeling the pressure

Hiya Von.... u have a statutory right to maternity leave..u have nothing to fear.. they do not have a leg to stand on.. their request has absolutely no legitimate basis...

Tell them you have pneumonia and it's contagious.

Then ask them if they still want you to come in to work...and cough all over everyone

You can't work if you don't have your health sorted out, your boss sounds like a contradiction to herself....probably the change or pmt or summit...

Not sure how it works in the US but can't you get a line from the Doc declaring you unfit for work just now??
