In a society where everyone is "entitled to their opinion", what place is there for right and wrong?

I think *wrong* only occurs when it is hurtful to someone (that doesn't WANT to be hurt lol)...

*EVERYONE* is entitled to their OWN opinion...

Just because it may not be the same as yours.. doesn't make it wrong. (or right)

As long as it's not *hurting* anyone else... no one is *wrong* IMO.

I see your point, love...... thumbs up Of course, I believe everyone is entitled to their opinion but what puzzles me is that it appears hat these days, it is not acceptable to question, to challenge...?? How on earth do we learn otherwise? We would not have got to this point, if we had not questioned.......

PC gone mad yet again perhaps?? D'oh!

everyone is entitled to their opinion, what one person perceives as "right" another could see it as "wrong". neither are right or wrong, just different. right and wrong is relative

Probably one of the best posts I've seen in weeks on here. It's always good to stretch one's self. Even though I probably disagree with 75% of the views on here, the comments do make me think. Sometimes I love challenging people's views just to see how they got from point a to point b. Not necessarily just to be antagonistic.

Right or wrong, good or evil, stagnation or living, these are things that are all relative to the individual.

So how can my views of right, good, living be the same as yours?

We function in so many different arenas.

on a personal level, every opinion is just that. An opinion. We either agree or we disagree.

In a work environment right and wrong are shaped by the culture and requirements of the company. Again, agree or disagree but the company reserves the "right" to enforce its rules. If you abide by the rules it has a responsibility to follow through with a paycheque.

Society at large is yet another arena with another set of fairly arbitrary rules and so on ad infintum.

I think it is wrong to kill. I would kill you in a heartbeat (if capable) if you were trying to kill me.
so even our own positions on what is 'right' and what is 'wrong' shift relative to circumstance.

And as roseofsharon points out if having "my opinion" leaves me unwilling to discuss or entertain the possibility that there is another way of reaching the same conclusion...well I am going to be a very boring person with no opportunity for growth or development.

Oh, and this is just another of those opinions!rolling on the floor laughing

Very good thread.

Every man has a right to be wrong in his opinions. But no man has a right to be wrong in his facts.

-Bernard Baruch-

“And it's my opinion, and that's only my opinion, you are a lunatic. Just because there are a few hundred other people sharing your lunacy with you does not make you any saner. Doomed, eh?”

-Oleg Kiselev-
