In reply to no one in particular....
Ok, I"m probably going to ruffle some feathers here, but I just can't remain silent on this issue anymore.
I replied to this thread thinking it was a thread about the American welfare system, and I offered information regarding my state and it's welfare policies. I did not realize until later posts that this is an issue of racial prejudice.
I just have so many points to make I can't even think straight.
First of all, this isn't even an illegal immigration issue, it is purely an ANTI-MEXICAN issue. I don't see Americans complaining about illegal immigrants from any other country. And if anyone is fool enough to believe we don't have illegal immigrants from Russia, Ukraine, etc.. they are simply blind to the facts.
2. I don't see an illegal Mexican "dead beat mooching off the system" as even one inkling worse than a full American citizen "dead beat mooching off the system". Believe me, we have TONS of dead beat lazy Americans sucking every penny they can from our system, who have never worked a job and paid taxes a day in their life.
3. I don't give a flying flip about who pays the taxes and who gets the benefits. It will NEVER be equal. It's not like everyone is going to work for 40 years and then everyone is going to collect that tax money back to live off of it in their old age. It just doesn’t work that way. Nor do we get to say “I paid $456 in taxes and I feel that so-and-so deserves that $456 in social benefits. We don’t get to pick and choose.
4. Furthermore, there are a lot of HARD WORKING people who simply don't pay taxes the same as everyone else. Lots of farmers provide their families with food, game, build a roof over their head, and take care of their families. They don't get an hourly wage, and they don't pay as much in taxes. That doesn't mean they are any less hard working people or that they should deserve a smaller piece of the proverbial tax benefit pie. Same applies to a lot of "Handyman" jobs that are done under the table. Same applies to a lot of Native Americans who make homemade crafts and sell them, or elderly women who make quilts and sell them.
This whole equation of "I pay taxes therefore I'm a harder worker who deserves the benefits" is an illogical platform. We all do what we can to support our families. If that means a 9-5 job paying taxes so be it. But it doesn't make someone a better person.
5. Most of the Mexicans I am aware of (and I really don't know or care if they are citizens are not) are very hard working people. I know a lot of American citizen adult males who think they are too good to work fast food, but are perfectly content to shack up with their welfare American citizen girlfriends who have babies by 3 different guys, and sit on their lazy butts playing XBox 360. Meanwhile Mexican men are sharing a freaking woodshed with 4 other families and putting in 12 hour days shoveling manure for $2 an hour.
I'm sure I had more to say, but at this point I'm too aggravated to remember what it was.
