panic attacks

i went through one very recently scared not only me but my friend who witnessed it. i am grateful he was there at the time since helped me out. i find that sometimes you can rely on a friend. i never want to go through such a thing again. i believe it was brought on a tremedous amount of stress i have been going through concerning work and other things in my life including a horrible fight with the same friend mentioned.
anyway has anyone ever experienced this and if so is there a way to help prevent it?

I use to be a supervisor which envolved alot stress, i started to have panic atacks , anxiety among other things i tryed everything " i am no doctor so dont sue me if this dont work but it did for me.. i took a cold glass of water with ice .. and took my hand and breathe the air from the ice in the water and i finally * knock on wood * beat it.. i tryed everything doctor had nothing would work... only thing i could figure maybe it was the oxygen in the ice water. but it did work and i havent had one in very long time.
Its a scary thing and youre not alone.

Been dealing with PD, Panic Disorder for decades. Your episode might have been reactionary to the stressors that you mentioned, (anxiety attack) there is a difference. Mail me if you wish.

Been dealing with panic attacks/anxiety disorder on and off since the beginning of time... A really super way to deal with them, is to prevent them before they happen. That can be done by meditation. Cross your legs, palms up on your knees, take a deep breath, start out kinda loud: "ohhhmmm, when you get to the mmmm you hold it low and long as you breath out. You can do it for up to 5 minutes, without harm. At first, it feels like you can only do it for a minute or two. That's okay, you can work up to more minutes. It works for me. And it is accumulative...meaning the more that you do it daily, the effects stay with you.teddy bear

I had one of these when I was a teenager...scared the crap out of me.Doctors gave me a valium shot. They told me to carry a paper bag in case I started hyperventelating.
This can be a start to a serious problem.Ask yourself if anything is bothering you.Any big changes going on now?Too much stress?Doctors can prescribe xanax (alprazolam-generic name)and that's an instant reactor drug that will settle you down in a short amount of time for sure.I have used this many times. You must be very careful with this though. It works so well...it feels good and you might like it.Can be very addictive.Valium and Antivan are also in the same family and do about the same.Like I say....it will work for sure..you must be very careful though. To get to the bottom of this though you must see some kind of proffesional. In the meantime...you are'nt alone and I feel for you.Don't feel embarrassed. You can get through this.If you feel this is going to happen again soon, you must seek help at once.If you need more info..email me.I've also known a few women who have had the same problem. You are'nt alone...
Be Well,Mick

Yup. I was plagued by them in my 20's.

I get the odd one now and again, it is a mind over matter kind of thing. Coffee is very bad for people with PD. Drink tea instead. A good stiff drink works too, but this can be problematic for some people.

I used to get them all the time, but grew out of them. I kept a small stack of brown paper lunch bags as I would start hyperventilating. Trying to visualize something calming helps. I picture the beach in Corpus Christi. Thinking about how soft the sand was, the smell of the ocean air, the warmth of the breeze. Slowly, I start to calm down and relax. Try something to that effect and see if it helps.
