I agree, these people should also be educated on these choices. You would not believe how ignorant and misinformed they are. Sad.

I agree thumbs up

I also agree that people should be allowed the option. (for the vasectomy)

As previously mentioned huger and AIDS is present everywhere. but in varying degrees.

Children dying of hunger and AIDS ... to say as a problem in the " nation " sense , ermm i guess food and basic medicines would be priority rather than sterilization.

In the overpopulous or economically weak countries , they do have " FREE " birth control options provided by the govt . But its not available to all yet !!

Free operations in these countries would bear heavy on the economy. Bearing in mind , its not just the money for the procedure but you need
trained staff and aseptic techniques and facility. " Tubal ligation has lead to fatalities out of negligence !!!! "

In developed nations i dont think they really need it , but a good option !!

In the countries where population is a problem , a key point to note is " too many children " in a family usually is due to religious reasons or lack of awareness. The religion factor considers sterilization a sin !!!
Besides, " man " being considered superior of the two genders , vasectomy is looked down upon.
So , free or not ... the ones who should be availing the option wouldnt in either case.

wave Riya.

I think that there has been way too much focus on one aspect(food) whilst forgetting a close to permanent solution to the problem. Now if population was controlled, wouldn't we have less to spend on food and medicine?

thumbs up

I hear ya.. our Prime Minister (Taoiseadh) recently commissioned an 'independant' body to determine the appropriate pay rises to be awarded to state employees.. this independant body determined that he and other high ranking Ministers should get upwards of E48k per annum raise (on top of his E230k), while lower level state employees got E0.. and all this while the government have been canvassing 'bench marking' in the work sector to maintain our competitive edge in the market place...

D'oh!

:frustrated very mad

Would it be wrong to offer FREE vasectomys and tubal litigation to adults (it would have to be of their own free will) in countries where hunger and Aids are killing children and leaving them orphaned?

What is worse? watching children suffer or allowing them to choose not to have children?

I'm not comfortable with people playing the 'God' role, I am not at all confident that we as human beings wouldn't abuse it..

Aids.. would perhaps become more of an issue if potential pregnancy was no longer a concern and also... education can have the valuable benefit of maintaining free will whilst allowing people to make wise choices

wave Welcome back !! hug

Thats true !! We need a permanent solution and "food" receives too much priority.

But considering this kind of scenario, if its a economically weak nation and hunger is causing deaths .. i think food and medicine would be prime .

In countries economically sound but a huge population and AIDS problem .. a permanent solution would be best !! But as i mentioned , if it is " a choice " its not going to get too many takers as religious and personal dogma dominate the psyche.

The issue wont come with tubal ligation !!! Most women dont get the choice and the chance. Its vasectomy which causes the stir !!!
